I found a guy offering a Mizuho Taco Slot machine. It's in great shape with all papers, keys, etc. All of the lights and bells work fine. It's 3' high or so and currently runs on tokens. He says it can be converted to real coins but never did so. He's asking $145 firm. Just wondering if anyone has experience of what I would be looking at if I pick this up. Is there maintanence involved, do they break down a lot, etc. Also, does this price seem fair? Thanks for any help!

DANG! If you do not buy it, I will! That is beyond dirt cheap for a slot machine of that size! I'll hold off on the Buy It Now price for a few hours. That would be a great item in my new TV room!

I had done a search on Ebay and nothing came up. That's not the one I'm looking at, but apparently $145 is a great deal! Still wondering about breaking down, etc. Thanks for the help!

I am a slot machine collector. these japanese slot machines are NOT at all like casino machines. cheap junk, but for a gameroom, they will suffice. Any machine that is designed for tokens is a good hint here, sure, you can convert them, but why bother. All my machines are from casinos and have a casino sticker on them (where from etc.). the casino machines last a very long time and have that 'feel' over the mass produced slot machine (toys) from japan.. i guess its like comparing a honda to a ferrari in look and feel. search craigslist and get a vintage Bally for a few bucks more.

this is a vintage Bally machine i picked up on craigslist for $200. it is one of the first electro-mechanical slots from the late 70s early 80s. it runs on nickels, plays and pays all day. it is from the flamingo hilton in vegas. see pic for comparison to the other macine listed. quite a difference.

i believe, if you look at that TAco machine more closely - it does not even have a pull handle (which is half the fun), it all runs on buttons. Here is a pic of a 1940s Jennings cherry machine i restored. it weighs in at 120 pounds, cast aluminum housing - purely mechanical. what a monster. I have a mills qt chevron that is a blast to play too (small and fast), i will get a pic of it sometime. these older machines go for around $1000 - $2000 though. a good investment however.

Is it just me or does the name of the machine "taco slot" bring up some pretty disgusting mental images?

Yes it does! Not always disgusting though.......;) Well I ended up getting that machine and then another one off Ebay! I've been researching them like crazy. I was wrong in calling it a slot machine, as it's actually a "pachislo" machine. None of the pachislo machine have pull arms like a traditional slot machine. I actually prefer that (they also call them skill stop machines), but my mom who hits the river boats didn't since she's used to the arm. The nice thing about the pachislo machines is that the prices are so low (decent machines everywhere for $100-$200). Japanese law allows the machine to only be in the parlor for 2 years and then it has to be removed and not used again. I'll put a picture of them up when I get home today. It will probably have my 9 year old in the picture though since he won't get off the machines!

One of these would be very cool in a garage with a sitting area!!

other than the fact i put money into slot machines and it never comes back out, i know next to nothing about slots. one of my friends has a couple set up in his game room, they're fun, but he said they're a pain to get fixed if they break. have fun with it if you get it though, :)

here is a pic of my 1932 Mills QT (quicktime) Chevron that i restored. these machines were lightning fast and small (about 70 pounds) for when gambling was illegal and had to be hidden off the counter in case the law came storming in. Fun machine, clockwork like performance and reliability - i need to fill the jackpots with nickels - it has been paying well..today, this is a $3000 machine.
