    Hey guys

My F12 is currently equipped with manual valve opening on an otherwise stock exhaust.

What I'd like is two things:
    - get more of the beautiful noise inside the cabin while not making it louder necessarily
    - achieve a more high-pitched "F1" sound, again while not making it louder when cruising

My current idea is trying to fit an x-pipe only while leaving stock cats and mufflers. Does anyone have experience with how this will affect sound?
On a second note: the novitec mufflers are also valved, so are they about the same volume when the valves are closed or already much louder than stock?

Thanks for your insights and wisdom!

    Michael

I installed the novitec x-pipe only on mine. Based on your description above, it's exactly what you want.

Oh man - I was hoping somebody had that experience. Thank you so much! You don't, by chance, have any before and after clips of yours, do you? The videos I find online are always more complex installs.

I would have thought installing just the X-pipe, without change to the boxes or the cats, would bring little to no change... I would be curious to see a before/after video as well.

No. I bought this car because I wanted a V12 motor and with that said within 2 weeks of ownership I took those cats off, tuned it, and threw the cats in my attic should the next owner down the road not appreciate it. I actually "drive" the car (e.g. I put thousands and thousands of miles on my exotics) yet the far majority barely put a hundred miles on their exotics and they worry about the noise or a lack of a cat. Just take it off, flash the ECU, and enjoy. YOLO.

Difference is substantial. I test drove it completely stock. Had dealership cap the valves for straight open on stock setup when I took delivery and then a few weeks later off came the cats and on went the Ryft downpipe and Capristo X-pipe. I have a valve controller that really isn't necessary. It's not that loud at idle (except cold start). The throttle is a volume switch. Keep it under 3000 rpms and light throttle and you won't "piss anyone off."

    Hi Nosferatu

Thanks, would love to go catless, but I live in Switzerland, where this is a relatively big no no. The car also has to go to checks every two years that it would never pass...
200 cell cats might be an option, but as I do long road trips in it, I want the car to still cruise comfortably on the Autobahn but have more noise inside when I'm pushing it.

Would love to hear more insights on European-friendly solutions!

Gotcha so regional. Just try the high flow cats and see what happens. I live in USA and in a state that doesn't have yearly emissions so it's a zero issue. ECU flash for a little extra power and no annoying check engine light.

Unfortunately anything that isn't expressly ECE or TUV approved won't fly in Switzerland. CH has easily the harshest rules with regards to homologation of anywhere on earth. No sport catalysts have this approval, x pipes from the major manufacturers don't have this approval and most rear silencers are not approved either.

A lot of people who install x pipes only find it makes the car seem quieter, it has very little effect on its own. They rely on increased exhaust flow (either from higher flow catalysts or a less restrictive rear silencer) in order to make a difference, replacing it in isolation won't do much.

Based on feedback I've had from 200 or so owners of modified F12/812s the best setup is 100-cell sport cats, x pipe, valved rear silencers and a remote. Decats sound a bit agricultural and harsh, furthermore you lose a lot of low end torque due to the loss of backpressure reducing the efficacy of scavenging within the exhaust. The sport cats are every bit as loud, but much higher pitched, much more crisp and sort out a lot of the cold start rattle you get from the rear silencer when you install decats.

Thanks, 250boano! Very qualified feedback, will take it to heart - does not sound like there is an "easy" solution for me, but I appreciate you taking the time!

My experience echos 250boano. Installed a Capristo X pipe on my non-GPF 812SF. The pitch was instantly higher, and softer. At WOT near 6000rpm and higher, it's great. High pitched wail, but anything less then that was very lackluster. Downshifts were nearly inaudible, and all of the low end drama was gone. I don't think I would do it without HFCs again...the around town trade-offs weren't what I wanted.

My pleasure Michael! Always happy to throw in my 2c. Sorry Switzerland are so strict, it makes it really hard to modify your car. I think a lot of spacers are TUV approved - but with regards to exhausts it's tough. I think Kline and Capristo make a few TUV approved systems for V8 cars, but I'm not aware of any approved systems for the V12s :/
