Theyve gone up 20-25% this year. I drove the 488 , 458 and the mclaren 650 hard over threee days and came to the same conclusion many others ( and it would appear even ferrari dealers now) that the mclaren with its push rod suspension and carbon tub drives better. It has better brakes and i could drive it 30% harder in real world situations (on a road not a track) than i could either ferrari. What i concluded thouh was despite all the improvements the 488 lacked the drama of the 458 at 9000 rpm, i want a supercar to sound like a racecar. Neither the mcalren or 488 did. Muted and boring. Fine for posing, driving to the shops, but on hard chat they both sounded boring. And despite being an awful car the hurracan sounded better. Talking to other people and dealers they seem to think that drivers ones who really drive a car will ignore the 488 and buy 458 because of this. Yes it had more torque but for road driving its too fast, you dont get the aural noise and its so fast it goes between gears before you have had a chance to hear the accelration and feel the feeling of driving fast. I went to order a 488 and didnt , and the dealers have saying the same, and that there are two camps of people, those who do and those who dont. Those who dont will buy the 488. So do we think this will mean used car prices surpassing new car prices next year? Im 2000 miles in over four weeks And know i made the right decision to buy used. Ipe exhaust will only confirm that decision even more when it goes on. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Congrats. While I agree with the sound assessment completely, I don't see prices intersecting for a long, long decade plus+. Too many 458's made and not enough die hards to appreciate it.
I doubt it. A lot of Ferrari owners want the latest and greatest. 458 spiders under 15,000 miles will probably plateau in the 215-220 range in a few years (2018-2019) while 488 spiders will be hovering at msrp for 320-350k. I agree with the road experience and sound assessment but on the track the 488 will beat the 458 with ease. I am not sure how close the 650s will be to the 488 in track experience.
488 spiders are easy to buy but the wait for me was 12 months. Maybe 6-8 months if I bought a cali t. Haha. I do think that the 488 is more enjoyable as a spider
That is a beautiful color. Not common enough. I don't know where you got the figures on spider appreciation. They have come down hard for 2013s and 2014s.
As someone who has driven all the cars we are discussing, the 458 continues to stand out. I do not mean to criticize or speak poorly of the 488 or anyone who truly prefers the car over the 458, but I do not recall this level of disagreement over the 360/430 (basically the discussion was aesthetics with most favoring the "looks" of the 360) or the 430/458, given how much of an improvement and entirely different looks separated the two. Based on uk prices. Ive been looking for one with the perfect spec for a year. When i started looking last year the lowest 12 plates were between £145k and £155k 13 were £153 - £160k. Ive just paid £190k for my 13 plate, albiet a massive spec car Red cars have gone up in prticular and red with cream even further so. Most dealers have large waiting lists for used red with cream. I know as i was on those lists pretty much all of them , and in some cases 7th or 8th on the list! And they just keep going up. Marrenello has a 14 plate red with cream for £205k and even 4 - 5 months ago that would have been £170k car. Used Ferrari 458 Spider car for sale in Egham | Official Ferrari Used Car Search So for red with cream leather ( which as it turns out is now super rare as nobody ordered them new) is there any limit to there price ceiling? I specifically wanted big spec rosso fuoco with lift and full electric seats (not the bloody uncomfortable racing seats everybody seams to love) and it took me a year to find that and in that time they just kept going up and up and up!
Don't care about the price going up or down, these things will make you live longer. I've been to a track with IPE and Novitec 458s, and Novitec sounded more screaming (But don't know if the IPE was on race cat or test pipe, the Novitec was on test pipe).
Isn't cowl shake much improved in the 488 spyder? I prefer coupes, so I don't have a dog in this fight.
The 488 is a better car overall than the 458 . I have both and grab the keys to the 488 much more. 458 prices will continue to depreciate and 488 prices will hold for at least another 12 months. I don't see 488 prices depreciating below 458 values for a long long time if ever..
This topic is where specs matter - well spec'd 458 spiders, ie, with racing seats (only 10% of spiders have these, color, carbon, etc.) - and other unique aspects will drive strong prices for select 458 spiders.
I cant believe for road (and not track) driving any sane person would order the racineg seats. I soent four hours in them on a long drive in a friends car and welli was crippled, in agony. Spent four hours in mine the other day with full eelcteic and i could have gone another four hours. Interestingly in the uk almost all the red with cream cars that have come up in the last tweve months all had racing seats. Which is why ive struggled. Even got to the stage of looking on enay for some electeic seats to rip the racing seats out for something comfy, but then mine came up with normal seats and bought it. Looking on ferrari used approved 50% of used stock currently has racing seats which is crazy - they are not designed for humans abd humans are not designed to sit in them , maybe just on a race track but anywhere else they are just to uncomfy for anybody over a 34" chest!
