Working on it, but this will take time. However my EA F1 2002 Challenge setup for two players is ready. Come'on over to my house, I give you a challenge (paraphrasing Rosemary Clooney).
The PS2's hardware wouldn't be capable of running the first PGR, let alone the second one. (I bought PS2 in 2000 and XBox in 2001: since getting the XBox, I haven't played the PS2 since.) The PS2 uses 1999 hardware (equivalent to Voodoo3 / TNT2, Pentium II level clock with PIII level architecture). The XBox uses 2001 hardware (very high bandwidth GeForce3 [higher than the flagship GeForce3 Ti500 you could buy for PC at the time], Pentium III).
Ooooops I clicked the wrong button. I accidentally clicked never. But I play frequently on PS2. Gran Turismo1, 2, 3, and soon 4, is the best racing game to date.
Just as a side note, once you've finished PGR2, you get access to the full Nurburgring Nordschleife(20.8km track). I've been testing the super-exotics, and so far have the following best lap times: Ferrari Enzo Ferrari 6:54.415 Pagani Zonda S 6:58.200 Koenigsegg CC 8S 7:03.982 Porsche Carrera GT 7:08.182 Ferrari F50 7:19.232 I have yet to test the TVR Speed 12, Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR, Porsche 911 GT1, Saleen S7, Ascari KZ1, Jaguar XJ220, Ferrari F40, Porsche 959, Ford GT40 and Ford GT. There is still quite a lot of room for improvement; none of the laps were perfect (especially the F50 lap), throwing a wheel here and a wheel there off into the dirt, as well as some skids and slight losses of traction, each contributing to a gain of seconds. For comparison, the PGR2 Nurburgring lap time world records are: TVR Speed 12: 5:59.552 (nicholas0202) (All-Ghost Challenge) [bonus car, completion of game on Platinum, at least 200 hours worth of playing time] Porsche 911 GT1: 6:11.781 (ic UK) (All-Ghost Challenge) [bonus car, completion of game on Silver] Koenigsegg CC 8S: 6.19.916 (GP TandeM) (Car Challenge) Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR: 6:23.034 (ACR Z06) (Circuit Challenge) [bonus car, completion of game on Gold, at least 150 hours worth of playing time] Ferrari Enzo Ferrari: 6:23.848 (standard bmx) (All-Ghost Challenge) Koenigsegg CC 8S: 6:27.867 (MotoXPJ) (Circuit Challenge) Pagani Zonda S: 6:34.116 (Byron5184) (Circuit Challenge) Porsche Carrera GT: 6:37.817 (IhrKampfen) (All-Ghost Challenge) Saleen S7: 6:50.383 (Tuscan UK) (Circuit Challenge)
You can play games on PC's?!?!?! Since when? I have not touchad another game since mastering Asteroids Deluxe back in 1979! Retired at the top! Cheers, MARK
lol It's a multi-billion dollar industry with thousands and thousands of games available. Since when? Since the 1970's, but they really only became mass market at the beginning of the 90's.
Gran Turismo 3 and soon to be 4 I have someone to play with, my g/f's 3 year old, he loves cars (especially Ferraris), superbike, and video games. I can't disappoint, now can I? Sunny
I like F355 Challenge on my PS2. There are not a lot of circuits and the graphics aren't that good, but I still like the game. Have you ever seen the intro of it? Sweet! A bit of sightseeing in Maranello. Probably the only game whe're your able to testdrive on the Fiorano track ! A few other circuits are Laguna Seca, Suzuka, Nürburgring (short), Monza, Long Beach, Sepang Malysia,... The extras include a photogallery and short movies about the birth of the F355, the real F355/F360 Challenge and the F355 World Tour event from 1999, very nice! But you have to unlock them first. I also have Gran Turismo 1,2 and 3; better graphics, more cars, more tracks, but... I miss Ferrari's in it. I'm not gonna buy an X-box just for P. Gottham, altough I really like to have the game.
I used to play a lot of console games, but not so much these days. The PS2 and the Gamecube keep me happy right now. PS2: Gran Turismo Final Fantasy Series Gamecube: Resident Evil Series Mario Series Now back in the day...*reminisces* *edit* Whoops, I forgot to add PC! D'oh! I play Star Wars Galaxies on the PC. Great game if you're a Star Wars nut, but most of 'em are too busy playing KOTOR
Yes, 355 Challenge is spun frequently on my Dreamcast, but YOU CAN SAVE YOUR SETUP TIFOSI12!! Your setups can be saved and used on SINGLE player mode. However, they cant be used on the ARCADE mode. I will personally give every Fchat player a beat down. If your ever in Austin, Tx we can meet at Dave and Busters. Alas, the Full spec sim clutch and 6 spd activated arcade is the best racing simulation experience ever! Lol, my freind told me I should own a Ferrari since I raced so well on the arcade, he was quite impressed since he tracks his NSX reguarly. Hes always telling me stop messing around with the Chevys and buy one If you have dial up on your Dreamcast, you can "race" online, and you can watch the wonderful trailer for 355 as well. Its great, it starts off with a Japanese team prepping their 355 for a race, and has a nice race scene at Suzuka Short, sounds great too! Only thing is the only way to view it is if you go online, even though its on the disc itself http://mediaservice.photoisland.com/auction/Feb/2004253868410719052368.jpg Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 is also fun and I do play it sometimes, along with Metopolis Streer Racer on the Dreamcast, which is the precursor to PGR on the Xbox. Its fun, but no PGR2! I hate the Gran Turismo series, most overated games ever!
Gilles is right on target..... There are lots of neat and entertaining driving GAMES out there. There is only ONE true driving simulation on the market. Grand Prix Legends. Its PC only. It came out about 5 or 6 years ago. The physics engine in the game is simply incredible. Even though the game is old, it has a large cult following of hardcore sim racers all over the world and a huge 3d party add-on developer community. The graphical updates, sound updates (sampled from the actual cars) and track updates make this STILL the most cutting edge driving simulation in the world. You can download pretty much any real racetrack from around the world.. and tons of fantasy ones too. There are hundreds of online racing leagues. GPL is not a game. You will not sit down and start turning hotlaps within an hour of loading it up. It models the 1967 F1 season. Driving 1300lb cars with 400hp and no wings with hard compound treaded tires is not a simple trick. The cars are driven on the throttle. It can take literally months to learn how to lap consistently. You will probably NEVER get good enough to actually race online with the best players out there. Like real F1... there are guys out there whos skill level is just on another plane. If you want to play around with a driving game.... tons of good titles have been mentioned. If you want to get as close as is possible to actually driving a racecar..... get GPL. Just be prepared to dedicate lots of time to a very steep learning curve! Terry
I've got Xbox, bought it with PGR 1 the day the Xbox came out in 01. Now I'm up to PGR 2, which means RalliSport Challenge and Sega GT are collecting dust for a while. I'll admit I was HORRIFIED when I put in PGR 2 for the first time and saw it ran at only 30fps and not 60fps like PGR1. Then after a few days of gameplay I was willing to forgive when I saw the number of tracks and cars, the higher levels of course detail and tons more polygons on the cars making them look super smooth. One issue I do have is that when you save up your credits wisely, when you hit the next level of cars you can just buy the best car right away and kill the CPU. It doesn't seem as "fair" as the previous system, and the more variable CPU opponent selection of PGR made you use the best car you had no matter what and you used a bunch of different cars. This way you get to a new SUV level, buy the Cayenne Turbo right away and no one touches you for the next 8 events. Some all-time console racing favorites: Sega Rally - Sega Saturn (I never had DC to play Rally 2) Daytona USA - Saturn Virtua Racing - Genesis Super Mario Kart Series (SNES, N64, GC - although I don't like GC Battle) Top Gear series - SNES RC Pro Am - NES Galaxy 3000 - NES Wipeout series - PS1
Agree 100% with Tspringer. The saying, "racing is life, everything else is just waiting", applies here. GPL is "virtual life". You have to invest as much time learning to drive a GPL car at speed as you would a real 1967 F-1 car. Once you "get it" it will intrude on your life. You will neglect your chores and other interests to spend time behind the wheel. It is so very satifiying to see your lap times improve, all the time thinking, "I could get into one of these cars on a real track and do pretty well!". However, you have to tweak the sim with updates for fast CPUs, force feedback, etc. Then you need a decent force feedback steering wheel and pedal set. Then learn to drive before you worry about how to download new tracks, sounds, cars, etc. Driving tip: Don't use any of the driving aids, braking, steering, and such or you won't learn to drive as quickly. Also, just because the pedal goes to the floor doesn't mean it always belongs there! This sim is for drivers, not players.
