when you see pictures of 458 with gun-metal grey wheels, is this a factory option or have customers got it done from elsewhere?

my 458 is coming soon and ive orderded it in yellow with a black roof, i was thinking of painting my wheels in a shiny black however ive seen lots of pics with them in a dark gun-metal grey which im really liking them.

what do people think... shiny black or gunmetal grey?

ive just seen some pics of grigio titanio and that looks a really cool colour with a black roof

Yes, dark grey finished sports wheels are a factory option.

A lot more than a bodyshop will likely charge you to repaint the wheels. In the UK it was an extra £1100 or so to have the factory option on top of the price for the sport wheel option.

AFAIK there is only one grey offered. The variance in colour on photographs is most likely due to lighting conditions, camera quality etc. This is a pretty fair representation of the colour from one of my wheels. The pic was taken when the car still had it's transit protection film on.

With the black roof the shiny black wheels would probably compliment the look best. However some people are fussy about only having work done by Ferrari before delivery; sort of the official factory stamp of approval. Since the wheels are getting all this attention, what color for the calipers? Sport seats are another useful option to seriously consider.
I would order the gray factory painted wheels and buy a spare set of wheel and get them painted black for later when you wear out the first set of tires...

That's a nice colour. Makes tyre, wheel and disc blend better together as a whole than with the bright sports wheel.

Iain, didn't you or someone post a page from the Atelier manual also showing a dark gray polished wheel?

I did indeed Mark. It's painted the same grey as my wheel but the outer face is diamond cut and laquered. Here is the order guide page, a pic of a Rosso car with the diamond wheels and a pic I took at the World Premier event last September of a Rosso Fiorano car with this wheel option.

Love the red in the second pic. Is that one of the 3 layer jobbies?

Yes it is a three layer paint. My poor pic (thanks to rubbish camera on my Nokia) makes it look darker than it is. There are alternative metallic reds that don't look a whole lot different though in Ferrari's out of range colours that are less than half the price of Rosso Fuoco and will be far easier and less costly to repair should the need arise.

The option for the grey painted wheel costs approximately an extra $3000 in addition to the $5000 or so for the 20" wheel .. ludicrous really but it does look great

Yes, that's the trouble with pics: paint can vary wildly from one to another. The Grigio Titanio in particular looks different in almost every set of pic. That 3 layer red though... when I was growing up there was a lot of Candy Apple Red doing the rounds on custom cars and a really well done Candy Apple (some were less than well done) in the flesh was something to behold. I get the feeling the 3 layer red is going to have a similar effect. Thanks for the pics.

ill probably just get them painted from a bodyshop, as it will be alot cheaper and i can have a play around and decide whether to go for shiny black or gunmetal grey

Does Ferrari charge $20K for Rosso Fuoco like they do for Bianco Fuji? They are both tri paints, so I'm assuming they do. Would love to know actual price from someone who ordered it.
