Ferrari has the F1 paddles, Lambo has the E-gear, do all the other exotic (Aston Martin, Bentley, RR, ect) and high-end (Mercedes, Porsche, Maserati, BMW, ect.) have similar transmissions?

As far as I know, Maserati has the same F! tranny as the Ferrari's, and I know for a fact BMW has the SMG. Audi has thier DSG, which is probably on of the better ones around, and I don't think Porsche has one, though there is a strong possibility I am wrong. As for MB, Aston, Bently, and RR, I have no clue.

Porsche will introduce a DSG equipped car soon. I think it will first be introduced on the next generation 911 turbo.
Aston has an F1-like transmission on its Vanquish. The Bentley Continental GT and Flying Spur has paddles you can use but it is similar to a tiptronic transmission. Basically it is an automatic that lets you shift via paddles.

I think Aston will introduce it through all the three model ranges. When is the next generation 911 planned? What is the difference between the DSG and tiptronic?

Most cars have some form of "auto-manual"....but not all are paddles. Porsche has tip, Aston and Bentley have paddles, BMW has paddles, Mercedes has the buttons on the back of the wheel....Bugatti has paddles.

DSG is the best design and priced very well too. I believe VW has the GTI with this option costing only $700.

Hard to believe how much the premium brands are charging for inferior designs. Of course if your spending over six figures on any car the sequential shifter technology at 10 grand is not to dramatic.

Porsche is following suit with something called PDK I believe and it will be available on the twin turbo.

Do you mean semi-auto manual based gearbox with paddle shift or a boring plain-jane automatic with paddle-shift? Alpina did an automatic E36 with +/- button behind the steering wheel as early as 1992/1993.

MBZ are all automatic gearbox, with the exception of CLK GTR and CLK DTM.

    Porsche = Tiptronic
VW Group = DSG (Bentley, Bugatti, Audi, VW, Skoda, Seat)
    Aston Martin = Touchtronic
Alfa Romeo = Selespeed (Comfortronic on the 166)
Lancia = D.F.N. (Dolce Far Niente)
Mercedes Benz = once they called it NAG, now there's the new 7G - Tronic

That Evo X w/paddle shifted DSG will be a tempting everyday driver!

DSG is a computer controlled dual clutch unit. This is top dog right now from a performance and automatic mode..

No single clutch sequential can match the all around abilities of the DSG..

The automatic torque convertor trannys' with paddles really can't compare to the directness (sp) of the DSG or even the single clutch units like BMW's SMG III..

I believe BMW is moving to Dual clutch sequentials in its next evolution of M series cars..The single clutch units just can't compare.....

The DSG units should prosper because they give great automatic mode...yet better fuel economy and acceleration.

    And...

Volvo has geartronic, chrysler autostick...... But most of theese are just as mentioned automatic gearboxes with the possibilty to change gears via buttons, flaps or stick. But few have an actual 'manual gearbox' with flap paddels instead of clutch pedal and stickshifter.

    EXACTLY !

It has been mentioned in passing, but it is important to note that not all cars with paddles are manuals. Many many cars have paddles or gear selectors that tell an automatic tranny (i.e. torque converter and planetary gearboxes) to "please shift if the conditions are appropriate."

F1, DSG, SMG, etc., are true manual gearboxes (i.e. clutch(s)-to-flywheel, layshaft(s), etc.) that shift in sequence (can't skip gears) by virtue of a rotating slotted pin.
