Here you go for sharing. I did a search, lots of info here but had to go through a few threads to figure out how to properly hardwire a Valentine 1 Radar Detector so I decided to create a simple DIY on a pdf format so that if you need this info you can just print the pdf and take it with you when you are ready to wire up your car. Hope this helps some of you. Important note: Turn Battery Power Switch to the OFF position before working on any electrical circuits. Dan Image Unavailable, Please Login
I see that you had the complete light assembly off the car. I assume that there is a connector so that you can do that. Is the radar detector attached with suction cups? Alan
Hi Alan, Yes, there is a connector behind the light assembly that you can undo so that you can work on the light assembly off the car. Photo below. Currently I have my Valentine 1 attached to my windshield with stock suction cups. Next mod is to use "BlendMount" radar detector rearview mirror mount. I installed blendmount on my 2009 BMW M6 and it works great. Just still trying to figure out the correct model for my 360. Still waiting for reply from Blendmount rep to see which model they carry I need that fits my 360. http://www.blendmount.com/ Dan Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks! I am fairly certain same procedure applies for some folks that has passport radar detector. Dan
Thanks Kevin! Yes, dome light still works. This V1 power adapter hardwire does not affect the operation of dome light at all. And I have upgraded my dome light to LED too. However there are some complications. Ferrari's design of the dome light power switch is odd. LED current draw is too low so I had to hook up the LED in parallel to an incandescent 194 bulb in order for the LED to work on door courtesy mode light properly. Also, LED wont light up in dome light Full On mode because the Ferrari switch design reverses the polarity of the power during dome light full power on mode. Still experimenting..........Will share soon. However, the LED panel light I have installed inside the dome lights is super bright and works well as "welcome light" / door courtesy light so I am leaving it alone for now. Dan
Thanks for the tips! This installation looks so professional and eliminates that bulky cord. Now my friends want me to do it on their cars. I did decide to do my splicing a bit differently in that I soldered the wires directly into the clock plug: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Excellent! Soldering wires is the best reliable connection method. I dont recommend the crimp on T type wire splice type that comes with the hard wire kit. Those do not provide a reliable connection as it doesnt really crimp the wires, it just wedges it in between the aluminum taps inside the plastic housing. And if its not crimped properly it severs the wires. I dont use those. I throw them away. I always either solder the connections or use very high quality butt splice. Dan
Love to hear what they say. I tried about a year ago and they didn't have anything so hoping they may have added something new to their line of products.
Finally got an eMail back from Blendmount. They still dont make a radar detector mount for our Ferrari 360. I asked why? "Low / no demand". Perhaps if we can get enough people here interested they may design one for us. I failed to ask how many minimum they need to start a new design for our cars though.... Dan
Buy a 3d printer and design it yourself : ) Of course that will be one expensive mount unless you continue to design and use parts. Also depends on your ability level with a computer, but thought I would throw it out there!
Went down that road with Blendmount last year. I helped them a little with their C6 Vette mount a few years back. I even took pictures of my 360's mirror mount and sent them to them and they said they had nothing that would work. The 360 has several issue that might be hard to overcome: 1) We don't have an auto-dimming mirror, so the switch that dims the mirror would present a problem. 2) Our mirror is very large and a very small windshield. Plus you add the switch issue in #1, it would make the detector hang very low. I mount my V1 just to the left of the mirror. Works well, with the exception when my sun visor goes down, it blocks the V1 rear detection. With that being said, I always present a solution with a problem. Construct a mount and a hardwire solution that fits between the seats (i.e. roll bars on the vert). The mount could interface with the windscreen between the roll bars. Coupes can use their rear window. Deiger
You mean like this? Wired to fuse box behind passenger seat/switched fuse using a fuse-tap, remote to center console. The bracket is a piece of aluminum bent to an "L" and covered in large shrink wrap tubing. Keeps the detector off windshield. I have been doing this to my porsche's for years. Exactly!! I love the mount for the remote display. Now I need a holder for the main unit in a Spider in that same area. Deiger
I wish Blendmount could and would make one for the 360 mirror but I can see why it would be challenging if not impossible. I wrote them some time back and after their initial expression of interest, haven't heard since despite attempts at follow-up. I think once they realized I wanted it for a 360 they lost interest. Anyway, some kind of similar mechanical mount would be better than using a suction cup. I find that even with the best of them, the suction holds fine until you leave it in the sun or drive on a hot day, and then the trapped air in the cup expands and lets the unit fall. Sometimes it does this on a drive and makes for way too much excitement.
Blendmount will not work with the 430 mirror, I tried it and it I finally got it to go on but the mirror could not move. There is a company on ebay that sells a different mount vertical attachment (I have their mounts in my other cars) rather than side, I am waiting for it to arrive but I think it will work.
Same here, I contacted Blendmount and they confirmed they don't make one for 360 or F430 (I now own an F430). I found one that works on my F430 but it's not a perfect fit. When installed and attached to the rear view mirror the V1 is not fully 100% level horizontality but I can live with it. I found it on eBay. My experience with suction cups is the same. Eventually it will come off. I fixed that issue on my dash cam by using 3M heavy duty outdoor tape. It now stays put! Dan Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Mine came yesterday, but even with the longer bolts they included it looks like if I mount it securely the rear view mirror wont move (not a good option). Dan which one did you buy?
Hi Morrie, I actually bought mine 3 years ago for my daily driver (2016 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV) but I never got the chance to put it on so I tried it on my F430 and it works but not perfectly. The rear view mirror angle adjustment is a little limited and its also not horizontally level. The rear view mirror mounting clamp also has "teeth" but I fixed that by adding rubber tape. Here's a photo. I will try and find the seller from eBay and post a link here soon if anyone wants to try it on their 360 or F430 Image Unavailable, Please Login Dan
