Wow !! That’s awesome. You keeping the car then? It would not be easy to get the body made. The glass would be difficult to I imagine.

I noticed, from the chassis pics, that the frame structure precludes a proper door.

I would like to give the car to my son rather than be forced to sell it. I am capable of building the body. I had a stroke a few months ago so I will have to recover from that first. With regard to the frame and the door issue; this car is the only example other than chassis #0002/52 that has the original high door frame. The factory still has that car. All the other half door cars were converted to full doors.

I saw this car in South Point Hawaii! Do the original blue prints go with it as well?

I hate to see thread titles like this, so I will just say 'Get well soon'! and 'GLWS'!

You have been a great member of this site for so long, and I always enjoy your threads and work, on the Mercedes!

Glws and I hope you don't have to sell it BUT if you do, have you thought about contacting Mercedes Benz to see if they're interested?

Oh yeah, They have threatened to seize it and crush it. They absolutely hate it because I wouldn't send the engine block to them for testing. Initially; before Mercedes Benz was bought by Daimler Chrysler and a lot of the "old guard" MB Classic Center archive and museum people they were happy to help and gave me full access to the archives in Stuttgart. Then Max Von Pein head of the museum was fired for mismanagement of the museum budget and Chrysler took over I was cut off from access. Luck would have it I had all the prints and info I needed by then...

I'm a bit baffled by that, they might not be happy that you didn't send the engine block for testing but that doesn't give them the legal right to seize and crush it unless I'm missing something?

I'm glad you were able to grab all the info you needed by then, regardless. This is quite a rarity you have here!

Yeah it was theatre. They don't have any kind of patent except for the trademark. The design patent was never filed for the W194 and would have expired in the 1970's if they did. They did file a design patent for the production Gullwing but it also expired and was non renewable. They were just mad because I had the only high door frame in private hands. Granted it is replica; but it is a toolroom copy of a very significant post war race car. I suppose it would be similar to the shark nose Ferrari replica in quality of reproduction.
