On my own, was just wondering whether it would not be simpler for me to bring my car for restoration to... Salvador !!! ;-) Above all when I look at our local "specialists"...
Thank you all! I am simply thrilled... .....and have yet to drive a Dino. We had to wait for the proper "El Salvador taxi" yellow to arrive via bus from Costa Rica, as here they only had three Qts. I was concerned about the blend to the correct formula, and they made it exactly as the first one. Wheeeew... Regards, Alberto
We made some new grille inserts as the old ones were abused, drilled and what not. The surround is also finished, now all can go to the anodizer, which by the way is an industrial outfit that produces aluminum extrusions here. They would not even talk to me if it weren't that the manager is a friend, so I'm in luck... Dino is coming out to be worked on again, so we should see some progress in the near future. Awesome Alberto, i just love the yellow / black combination. It will undoubtebly turn a few heads when finished. Tony
Well, the rainy season caught up with us once again thus delays. Just bought a friend's pristine BMW CS and also two low profile lifts that will be very useful for indoor work. Will post photos as soon as they arrive. Thank you for the kind comments. Regards, Alberto
It has been raining and Dino is on mothballs, but still working on it on the phone, preparing parts, etc. Work and family have caused a lot of unforeseen diversions, and Dino #2 is also on standstill, even though about 30 replacement panels have been produced to loose the lovely stuff, previously under the paint. MIG welder died, the machine, so replacement one on the way. As I cannot be fully on top of my restoration, I have taken up a friend's XKE that looked very pretty when bought and nice shiny paint, and this is the result, only the peeling off the bad stuff. Re-building, another issue. I must clarify that he went out and bought it without even kicking a tire, drove it 1 mile, bought it. When he brought it over, I did not know how to break it to him gently. Now, he is on another reality. In the USA, this car would have become a donor car. I thought you would enjoy the carnage. It is amazing that EVERYTHING is available for XKE's Regards, Alberto Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The detail on the intake side vent is wonderful; one of those small things which is tough to get correct; the form and shape are a line at teh forwardmost point that becomes a width as it goes aft. Lovely, color! PM sent asking for your formula or paint mix if possible. This is the original color of 05082 and we are almost there: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/northwest/410097-local-paint-body-1972-dino-gts-05082-a.html
Scott, all I have is a cardboard sample of the paint. The fellow that did the formula is no longer in business. Please send me your address if interested in a sample: alberto.guirola at gmail.com Regards, Alberto
Congratulations Alberto. A long road as you said, but its got to feel good when you take in how far the ptoject has come! Striking color...lovely
Indeed Scott, it was took almost 3 weeks to build the whole contraption and I will never restore another E-type, as they are all gone... At least the rotisserie will still come in handy. This XKE is the last one around, as some clever people came and raided the country bare of anything worthwhile. There is one remaining car that I have been chasing for the past 20 years, and it appears we are getting close to striking a deal. Keep fingers crossed! Your paint samples are on the way Regards, Alberto
Nothing much happening with 01104, as 03724 has been prioritized on the bodywork. Yet, as pix show, patience and doggedness pays off. Found 2 NOS parts that are rather elusive. I am thrilled What to do, snip legs on new emblem and sticky tape, or drill holes? Aaaargghhh... Regards, Alberto Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
