    Hi:
Alfredino's cause of death came up in a Senna motorcycle thread, and I obsessed about it enough to cross-post here. Mods can merge/cut paste I guess. Yates guessed it was syphilis? NFW. Anyway, I can speak to this since I care for kids with muscular dystrophy, etc.
    Anyone have more insight??

This was discussed in a documentary film on Enzo. I recall Dino suffered from MS. Thr narrator said he had difficulty with balance, tone, and battled frequent illness. My own son has CP... I definitely wld have remembered if that was Dino's condition as well. I have an MP3 version of this film saved on my computer @ home. I will double check tonight.

Conspiracy theories abound. One posits that Dino never really died, but took up residence in Vegas in the early days, and is still flourishing there today. HInt: have you ever seen a photo of Wayne Newton and Dino Ferrari together? Exactly...

In fact, when queried about this theory, Enzo himself just gave his typical response:

I have Yates' book and I have always felt that he should have never speculated on the syphilis theory in print. What did Laura Ferrari ever do to him for the printed suggestion that she was basically a hooker? It made an otherwise impressive biography into a cheap supermarket tabloid during a few sentences. This may seem crazy to say but had he dedicated a researched chapter to her past, I could have forgiven him for the implication but to just toss it out as an idea after, very clearly, stating that hardly anything is known of her "pre-Enzo" years is just tacky as hell for a journalist of his caliber. Besides, if she passed syphilis fatally to Dino, how did she make it from (probably) the 20's to the late 70's with no symptoms herself? Yates could have asked the same question to a professional before dressing up his book.

What happens in Maranello STAYS in Maranello.
Muscular dystrophy patients again cannot walk much past 8-12yo, would be wheelchair bound. Duchenne's MD is a genetic disease which only passes to males. If Enzo's gene, then Piero and his son would be at risk, and one of Enzo's brothers/uncles/male cousins should have expressed it. If it was Laura's there would be ill/dead males on her side.
MD also does not have much kidney disease assoc. with it. CP(cerebral palsy) does not kill people either, just cripples them. Spina bifida? It often has renal disease associated. Hmmmm.

    PS he was 24

A slip of the keyboard... I typed MS, but meant Dystrophy. The BBC biography reconfirmed this. Dino died in 1956 at age 24.
