This is one of those Nurburgring chaos videos from the early 70s. At exactly 3:09, A Verde Germoglio 246 GT goes through the frame (staying on the track, fortunately).

That video was AWESOME! People flying out of the cars as they roll, people skipping across the track, every other car flips over. Amazing to see how lack the safety was back then.

I still wonder what happened to the driver of the Simca at 5:56 and on. I hope he made it.
Many bread and butter cars had "interesting" handling in those days. So many cars with swing axles with obviously very dangerous handling. Ralph Nader certainly had a point. Also see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swing_axle

This video maker was Manfred Förster.
He was in the late 60s and early 70´s every weekend at the green hell
and filmed all the accidents with his super 8 camera.
I have the whole material from him, there were two VHS cassettes
    called "Rhapsodie in Blech".
Somewhen in the past available at Amazon like here:
    http://www.amazon.de/RHAPSODIE-BLECH-Crashes-Adenauer-Forst/dp/B001Q8BI0G
The section were everything happened is called "Adenauer Forst".
If you don´t know the next corner you may be on the wrong side and
will be not able to get the next corner.
It is still a area where you still can see every weekend lots of cars in trouble.
Most of the cars on the movie were with rear mounted engines as:
Porsche 911, Beetle, Fiat 850, NSU TT, Simca Rallye and with the small tyres
and simply suspensions a rollover has high probability.
As you can see safety belts were not required at that time.
The Dino seems to had a race with the blue 911 but had a mid mounted engine (better weight balance) and a better suspensions.
BTW: Nobody died during all these accidents ;-)
    Regards
    Nicolai

Yes I once made that mistake as well. Since then I know the corner. As a first-timer on the track, it's almost a certainty that you're going to get caught there.

Good to know the Simca driver survived, as it looked very bad.
It is in this video that you see why Porsche, Mercedes and BMW had a good reputation for handling back then.

Is that the driving instructor trying to leave the car through the passenger door window at 0:30-0:34? Scary video...
