I'm the owner of a Dino 308 GT4, Series 1 (1974). I would like to replace the external driving mirrors. Does anybody know what brand / make was originally used by Ferrari? I found various hints for Talbot, Daytona, Vitaloni and California, but no clear answer.
TAV 111 on the 1979 GT4 parts book shows what really looks like a Vitaloni California mirror. But 1979 isn't Series 1, it is just the only GT4 parts book I have. Someone here will have an earlier part book, I'm sure. I have a Vitaloni Baby Turbo on mine from the PO, but it is not original.
If you look closely, it's stamped on the outer edge of the metal part of the mirror. If it's the same as mine they're Cromodora Astro III. I've got a couple of NOS Vitaloni mirrors, but would much prefer to keep the Cromodoras. Unfortunately the mirror portion is looking bad and I haven't been able to find anyone who can replace them. Please let me know if you do find anything.
I guess this mirror was used for Fiat cars like Fiat 125 / 127, but not for Dinos/Ferrari http://aukcja.onet.pl/show_item.php?item=371454991
In a "homologation document" a found the attached pictures of an early series 1 car. What make of mirror could this be? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dno't know if this helps, but here are a few pics of what I believe are the original mirrors from my (#10896), series 1 car. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

DStacy, I think you missed. The pictures in the homologation pictures appears to be a round mirror. Your pictures are of the rectangular mirror (Astro III).
Well you know I'm man enough to admit when I've made a mistake. I would have sworn I had 30 or 40 pictures of round mirror GT4's. After your post, and rechecking all the photo files I have, I've diecovered you're right! I have plenty of rectangular mirror photos, but I too have not one picture of a round mirrored GT4.
I am looking for a right side Cromodora Astro mirror for my 75 308 GT4. Please let me know if you have one or a pair for sale. Much appreciated.
I'm looking for a right side one, too (in case somebody has two ) Hey, 21fish, if you send me your S/N and colors I'll add your car to the FChat GT4 list! Here's the link: How many GT4's here? - Page 24 - FerrariChat.com
I have a 1979 GT4 and I'm think of installing some Vitaloni California's that i purchased but I'm concerned about changing originality of the car.
dc, if you have a 1979 model then your Vitaloni mirrors *might* be an original option. The early cars came with one Cromodora Astro III mirror, and possibly an optional passenger side copy. At some point, though (Series II?) I think they refreshed the design and went with more modern 5-point star wheels and updated mirrors. Robert Garven is a good historian to ping for confirmation and clarification.
Mark I did see that the California's in the 1979 308 GT4 Ferrari parts catalog for drivers side (not for USA AUS GD J ), but my car is a USA model with original factory paint. I wonder if I would be taken away from the value of the car if I drilled the holes? I agree that the look would be i a lot sportier with the California's.
