I just bought a 2007 Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT, and as I understand it, it has a "detuned" 430 engine. I'm wondering what (if any) physical differences the engines have, or if it's all software - and what I'd have to do in order to "re-tune" the engine to squeeze some more power out of the QP.

I just got mine last week too. What a fantastic car. Did you get the auto? Mine is Bianco Fuji with black interior. Could not be happier

The auto wasn't for me. Duo-select put me more "in-touch" with the car.

I had an 06' QP with Duo Select.....I sold it and bought my 06' F430. So I know both cars very well. Obviously they are COMPLETELY different cars.
The engines are tuned very differently. The QP has a 4.2 litre and the 430 a 4.3......The 4.2 was originally going to be used in the F420 which became the F430. The QP is a MUCH heavier car and has a 390 Horsepower motor. The 430 is a 1000 lbs lighter and has a race tuned 490 hp motor......Bottom line the QP will never have the power of a 430.....I will say that after owning the current M5 for a short time, and owning the CLS55 AMG benz, the QP is the best handling sedan I have ever driven. I always wished it had more power. The duo select is a great gear box but it seems to be in a car thats just too heavy in my opinion. My QP was always in the shop and had several tranny issues. I would have kept it if it had the new tranny and 100 more ponies! I wish you guys lots of fun driving in teh best handling and most gorgeous sedan in the world.

Of course, I completely agree with you that a QP it will never have the power of a 430 (but hey - if I wanted a 430, I would have bought one!)

What I'm looking for is some ideas to get a faster QP, based on any similarities between its motor and the 430 motor, so I can maybe unlock a few more ponies. The weight will always slow the car down, but more power will speed it up a bit.

My Ferrari Tech (30+ yrs working for Ferrari Dealers) was telling me that a few guys want to unlock more juice from the QP.....I will ask him if he has any ideas. If I hear anything interesting I'll pass it along to you.

These guys have exhaust, suspension and ECU programming for Quattroportes. I wouldn't bank on 430-spanking performance out of a saloon, but I'm sure they could still make your car that much more enjoyable.

QP is number 1 saloon in Evo track time and is 17 seconds faster around the Ring than an M5. QP has same track time in Evo as a Cayman S. I don't care about unlocking Ponies. I bought a QP for handling and I sold a very fast E55 (chipped, exhaust, smaller pulleys etc) because acceleration alone gets quite boring after a while.

I had a QP GT Sport Cambriocorsa and exited it fast. It is a silly transmission for a saloon car IMVHO. Whiplash shifts are fine for a sports car but not so cool watching when watching 3 heads move in unison. Like Wayne's World in the Mirth Mobile. The QP auto is the car that the QP should always have been. It is every bit as fast and the increased torque more than compensates for the hydraulic loss

07 model is much much improved over 06. Brakes are noticeably better
