Is there any difference or improvements on a 90 as opposed to a 88?

I've owned both. The 5 lug wheels on the 90 are a big improvement. My 90 seemed to shift smoother. Better AC. All in all thought, probably not worth they extra you'll have to pay.

Ferrari Testarossa from 1987 -1990 were pretty much identical cars.

same horse power rating 380 horse power 350 feet pound of torue. same heavy weight.

the new car from 1989 and 1990 were some what easier to shift the gears slightly smoother. air condition better in the new cars 1989 1990. a bit more improvement. pretty much everything else stayed the same. till the 512tr came along.
whats your price range i would suggest a 512 tr.. much much much better car.

Im only asking because I have a 90 for sale............ The guy that wants to buy it was thinking of getting a 88. I knew there were a few differences but I was not 100% sure exactly what.

    Dear Ferraristi,

90-91 used a different engine sealant that was better at preventing leaks. (purple in color)

    Very minor differences overall.

How about the 91 cars? is there any other difference right before the 512? I just got a 91 but have no idea if it was any better than the older cars.

    Dear Ferraristi,

I have a 91 Testarossa and there are very few differences between the later cars and the last one. On the 91, they changed the brake rotors to what they called series II brakes. It looks exactly the same as all other Testarossa brakes and rotors. When I had to buy new rotors, that's what Ferrari told me.

The differences are very small because during the reign of the Testarossa, it was the hottest most sought after car at the time. Ferrari was selling every single one that they could build....80's exotic car boom, Miami Vice and "greed is good" 80's. Testarossa's were changing hands for as much as 300K....I know, you can't believe it....right? So why spend money developing the car further if it has no competition.

In those days, there was very little competition from other car manufactures...and the Testarossa to have 380HP(US) 390(E) in 1984 as a MY85, was astounding. Even the Countach made only 340....when it worked. The Testarossa had this hp and could be driven as a daily driver. It was equipped with all the latest safety and EPA standards of the day.....no more grey market cars. It was roomier, had better AC and a very usable trunk...addressing all the complaints about the 512 boxer.

It's funny that the 512 TR only comes out after the unavailing of 1991 Lamborghini Diablo.....the new standard setter in exotic car technology. ( Diablo 492 HP in 1991!)

Today, cars change very fast as there are more car manufactures that can compete with Ferrari and the level of wealth is greater in the world today.
