I assume you mean mechanically, as the exterior differences are obvious.

The changes the 512M had over the 512TR that I know of...

    1. Power increase to 440bph (up by 12) - higher comp. ratio (10.4:1), forged pistons and revised combustion chambers.
    2. Reduction of weight (I think 18kg).
    3. A few aero changes to improve airflow/aerodynamics.

I would love to hear other changes, I'm sure there are some that I'm not aware of.

All good. Can someone explain how 18Hp and approx 200pounds shave .3sec to 100kph? seems a bit far fetched

General opinions are 512M performs better than 512tr, while 512tr looks better than 512M.

But we all know that the original Testarossa is the one that set the world on fire at the 1984 Paris Auto Show, and that it is the best one out of the three :)

Each to there own opinion the F512M wheels are horrible but you could have the TR wheels fitted when new as a no cost option

    ANTS2AU,

Actually the acceleration time for a U.K. spec 512TR with 428 BHP is officially 0-100KPH (0-62MPH) in 4.8 SECS. It can achieve 0-60MPH in 4.7 SECS which is exactly identical to a Ferrari 355 and the 550 Maranello. The U.S. spec 512TR has 421 BHP (slightly less than UK) which probably accounts for the 0-60MPH time of 4.9 SECS.

The M has slightly more hp than the 512TR but also has the advantage of a lightened crankshaft(15 pounds lighter according to literature I have read, although that seems like a lot) and this, in combination with the titanium conrods and lighter pistons allows it to rev much quicker than the 512TR which accounts for much of the performance advantage. As it also has a higher compression ratio (10.4:1 vs 10.0:1 according to factory literature) it sounds different as well. Best way to describe it is a sound slightly higher pitched...reminds me of the 355 I use to own.
