    Good Day All,

So I am ready to pull the switch on a California T this weekend. I have 2 options:
    A) 2017 Cali T with 13k miles ($161k)
    B) 2016 Cali T with 13k miles ($157k)

Trying to figure out the differences between the 2016 & 2017 models so I can decide which one to get. I like both color combo so that’s not an issue. Obviously the 2016 is more appealing because it’s cheaper. So what sets them apart?

    Regards

Nothing that I’m aware of other than options on those particular cars — and, potentially, one more free service left on the 2017. I would pick the car with the most trouble free service history. My 2015 has had nothing to wrong with it in 23k miles other than batteries and a loose battery ECU that was replaced.

I would make sure you have the original option list for both, and an F dealer can do this for you if they are elsewhere. A big difference for some buyers is the Special Handling package.

I had the 2016 for five years and it was a great car.
During one of the annual dealer services they discovered a very small coolant leak which was in the fourth year and with the two year extended warranty was fixed at no charge to me.
Given your choice here I would take the 2017 as it may have one more free annual service left.
I think the changes were small, that is ventilated seats were available on the 2017 but also the HS package became available which changed the mapping of the transmission and settings for the suspension to become more aggressive. Also, the HS included an enhanced exhaust sound. i drove the HS and found it to shift harshly at low rpm’s and cornering not much different.
For sound, I added at the dealer the enhanced factory exhaust system from the HS package for about $4,500 installed and loved it. You could add that to either the 2016 or 2017.
Finally, the price on the 2016 is too high in my view. Last year I saw good models of the 2016 around $145k.

Thank you for the reply. It’s very helpful. Now none of these cars are at Ferrari dealerships. I got them both pre-inspected just in case. Is it possible to get an extended warranty at the Ferrari dealership after purchase?

Thank you will see if I can request the original option list. Now the question is how do I do this. Just walk up and give them the VIN I assume? Maybe for a price…

Just literally call or email a Ferrari dealership with the VINs. Call your nearest one and you can let them know you may come there for future service if you want to. For warranty, you can pay for Ferrari inspection followed by warranty - I'm sure there's plenty of threads on this forum on the topic but something like $800-1000 upfront and another $5-10K for the actual warranty. I don't remember if it's all 2 year or possible 1 year options.

Thanks for the help. I couldn’t find any 2016 Cali T that checked all the boxes for less than $152k so I don’t think you can find one for $145.

I think it is possible as they make a profit but they also need to inspect the car I think.
I recall reading on Fchat that there was a dealer somewhere in Texas who had good prices for extended warranties. You could do a search here. One question in my mind is whether a dealer who did not sell the extended warranty would balk at taking care of a problem. I think you would be wise to establish a service relationship with a dealer even if you might do services somewhere else at times. If you buy the 2017 and have a free annual service left it needs to be at a dealer and that could give you a start.
I think it is better to buy the extended warranty with your dealer rather than cherry picking a better price somewhere else. My warranty cost was $4,500 per year at my dealer which was usually $5,000.

Ferrari changed the rules a while back where the car must be scanned in at the dealership where the warranty is being purchased, so you have to do it at a dealer reasonably close by so you can get the car there. It was about $4500 for a single year. But they also charge for the inspection now.

Called the dealer and I have the inspection scheduled for the 25th of Oct. Looks like the cost is about $6k/yr

When I bought my 2016 Cali T from Ferrari dealer in April 2021, the previous owner had put the car in for CPO status for the dealer to sell it. My memory is the CPO process had around $10k in repairs whereupon the car was offered to me. The dealer sold me Ferrari two year warranty at $1800/yr, which I understood was the dealer cost. As an aside, I understood 12-cylinder cars had a bit higher warranty cost per year. I don't know Ferrari's business model for the combined CPO inspection, repairs to bring CPO status, and sale of two-year warranty all in a used car sales transaction, but I am happy the with result for my case.
