Did you know you can paint duct tape?

    Admission #1: My son did not get any of my car guy genes.

    Admission #2: My son has a tough time parking.

    Admission #3: He drives a white Toyota Highlander that looks it has been driven by those Libyan rebels.

    Admission #4: The other day he popped a good sized dent in the front/right plastic bumper cover when he hit a pole. (He was on the cell, of course.) Unfortunately, it also caused a big rip in the side of the plastic.

    Admission #5: I ain't putting no mo money into this car until he learns how to drive, which may be never.

    S-o-o-o-o, long story short, I used good ol' duct tape as emergency bondo to patch the plastic together. Looked ugly as hell. But the good thing about duct tape is the more you use, the better it gets. Or, at least that's my theory.

    Afterwards, when I was using the industrial sized white spray paint to cover up some other goobers, I decided WTH and painted the duct tape. Guess what? Not bad, not bad at all. You don't want to get much closer than 20 feet, but not bad.

    Do you think maybe I need to contact the duct tape people to see if they want to do a commercial?

    Can you give us a report if it holds at 100MPH? The paint to the tape..that is. I know the tape will hold well in excess of 100.

    I doubt it, being a Highlander and all. But it did make it through a cash wash if that helps.

    Yep, already knew about this. Found out the same day that I found out that I could paint my hand and it would stay on there for about 2 weeks or until I dipped it in carburetor cleaner.....

    Doc....Admission #4 is the biggest concern. The other items are unfortunate but the cell phone is correctable. HANG UP and DRIVE!

    You can paint it well enough, but getting bondo to stick to it is just a colossal pan in the arse. I'm restoring a '57 250TR and the bondo on duct tape isn't working out as well as I'd hoped.

    Luckily, bondo is cheap.

    So why worry?

    A '57 250TR is a very old car and perfection isn't expected. I'd be happy to take it off your hands for....say.....$200.00; duct tape, bondo and all! :)

    The vehicle does not belong to me, so I cannot sell it.

    You'd be surprised to know how many parts from the JC Whitney catalog can be made to fit this vehicle.

    I know, and I've found many parts at Harbour Freight too. Cheap and well made in China.....I don't know how they do it!

    What made it worse was he was on the cell with his mom who was chewing him out. <Sigh>

    I have already cut off their cell phones once, but then they found this guy in a back alley.
