I can't find a manual one anywhere
If you are talking about the XJ series which included the inline 6 and the newer V8s then I am 99.9% sure there are no manuals available. I remember when the XJR came out and they did tests of it versus M5, and E55, and always complained how the Jag and Benz with be better with a manual. Great cars though. Sunny (board member) who I am sure will chime in, is the resident Jag expert, but I am pretty sure I am right. *US version is what I am speaking of*
When the XJS was originally produced in the seventies you could buy the V12 with a 4 speed manual, however only around 400 were made, and is now a much sought after car, the later cars could only have the manual box with the 3.6-4.0 litre engines hope this helps.
Only on the later 6-cylinder versions and they were rare.... I think the V-12 XJR-S came in one as well, but they were never introduced in America...
Yes they were available in the early years for the V-12- up until 1980 or 81 in the US I believe- later in the UK. The auto was a GM (Turbo 400?- I can't recall) 3 speed. I think the 4 speed was GM sourced too but don't know for sure. The 400 number sounds about right- Jaguar dropped the manual as they weren't selling. Either transmission is probably the most reliable part of the car. I owned a 1983 HSE V-12- and always said better to have owned a Jaguar and lost money than to have never owned a Jaguar at all. I even won the driven class at a local Jaguar/RR concours. Still have the trophy. When it was running correctly it was lovely; very smooth, very quiet and quite fast- but not necessarily quick if you know what I mean. I loved the interior and the short, very close to you, upright windscreen. The brakes were very capable too- DeDion rear suspension with inboard disks as I'm sure you know. The back half of the exhaust has to be removed to change the rear rotors but the pads can be changed by removing the rear seat and a small access panel on each side. Check UK websites via the UK google- there is whole host of spares and data available.
I doubt it could have been homologated for Group C if it only came in auto. There are a few 4 speeds floating about in NZ and Aust but they are all pre HE cars from memory.
Yes, approximately 1% of all the XJSs had a 5spd. I had the 88 XJS V12, it was a great car. It was a very fast car. Not quick off the line....but whn you floored it at 80, that damn car really took off. One of the best highway cars I ever had. Just be prepared for minor fuel system and electricla bugs. No big deal. I am a huge Jaguar fan. I just bought a 73 XJ6 to restore for my girlfriend.
