Diamond Car Care is a mobile detailing service in the south bay. I signed up with them weeks ago to have my 2 cars detailed weekly. Keith, the owner, showed up himself for the first visit. He told me they will need to do a full detail first then they will continously come every week to do a simple wash. So i went ahead and signed up. He had originally told me the whole job would take 4 hours. When he was finished (10hours later) he ended up forking over a 4 figure bill which i thought was outrageous. He said his company charges 75$ an hour and thats what the total came out to but he was there for 10 hours ($750). Then he apogized and said he miscalculated the hours. Which I still think $750 is quite a bit to detail 2 cars. I told him that he should have given me this information before he started the job. He then apologized again and said he had expected me to know "THE GOING RATES".

So in the end we came to an agreement that I will pay the 750$ and he would continously come 3 out of 4 Mondays a month and "mini detail" the cars for $50 a car.

2 Mondays go by and he doesnt show or call. I then call him and he apologizes for not calling and said he had a big job to do in reno which took 2 weeks (BS). He promises he will show the next Monday at noon. He ends up showing up at 2:30. He then spends an hour and half washing the 2 cars and leaves. He said he would see me for sure next Monday.

Here comes Monday and again, No Call, No Show.

So in 6 weeks this guy shows up twice.

So I decided to give the guy a call and let him know what a prick he is. He picks up the phone and after apologizing for being the incompetent guy that he is he says: Ramon I think our services are worth more than what you are paying us and it just isn't worth it for us to continue doing business" (eventhough the rates are what he offered me). I told him he shouldnt have presented me an offer that he can't keep. Then he starts saying that the pay is not the problem, the problem is they are short staffed.

Unreliable, incompetent, Liar. Watch out for this guy.

Ramon.. that sucks. Thanks for the warning about these guys.

On a side note, I continue to have the best of experience with Bob Willis at Performance Art. He just detailed my CS at my place on very short notice and did a SPECTACULAR job. I would highly recommend that you try Bob and his team. Very honest, great work, great rates, and a wealth of knowledge.

No One, and I mean No One can impart the love and expertise to a detail that Bob Willis can.

I have the "I Love Bob" bumper stickers if anyone wants them.

    He's fantastic.

I wish he were more available.

I wash my car myself at the local spray it yourself place. Usually cost me $5 in quarters and 15 minutes. It always looks great. Once or twice a month I hit it with Quick Detailer and wipe it down. Wax it twice a year myself also... umm.. $6.95 I think :)

For $750, I would expect a super hot babe to do the car in the nude.. then do me.. every monday, without fail and also take out the trash on her way out... but that's just me :)

Murcii, in all fairness you really didn't tell us what you got for your $750 and 10 hours of work.

While I'm like RayJohns, in the DIY crowd, I know several other Fcar owners that have paid $500 per car and been EXTREMELY happy, but they are getting a far better detail than RayJohns or I are doing such as; ionized water washing, full polish and buffing, multiple coats of wax, fine line detail of trim, wheels Off washing and waxing, wheel well cleaning, engine detailing, full dressing, and more.
These owners are concours winners and they are very picky, so satisfying them would be difficult, yet they were glad with the results.

The $50 mini-detail sounds like a car washing and I'd think you could do that yourself

I think there should be a stickied thread for bad businesses so we can all learn from each other's experiences.

Do we know this was a "bad business" deal? The detailer spent 10 hours there and we haven't heard what he did. Murciii uses the word "incompetent" in his summary yet we have only heard his complaints about price and promptness of return visits, we have heard nothing about what actually was done during the detailing. I suggest we wait for the facts, care to share Murciii?

I know people who pay a higher price and are happy to do so because of the service they receive.

PS - There is nothing in the name "Ramon" that would prevent the man from being a bad detailer.

I used that wash during Concorso. Went early Sat AM and no one was there. Was about $4-$5 to wash. That high pressure spray is not good for the paint. Worked great on the wheels, however.

The assistant came over and asked me what happened to my silver car! I think he thought I was you, Ray!

Remember, I have the "I Love Bob" bumper stickers!

ok, heres what he did: Wash, wax, vaccuum, wheels. Looked like a 1 hour job. Didnt wash the engine. He says it took forever cuz outside the car was filthy. I admit the car was pretty dirty cuz i drive it everyday. But i had the thing detailed a few weeks back. Plus it can only take so long to wash the exterior of a car.

That's friggin' obscene. I'll wash, clay, wax anyone's car for $750. It would take me about two hours. I'm with Ray, bring on the naked girls to wash, wax and rub me and the car down! Even that's steep if you ask me. I can spend less at a local bar on drinks and get more than that.

by the way, funk soul brotha, the whole purpose of this thread was to discuss how crappy Keith's customer service was, not the quality of his work. The guy can do the best work in the business but whats the point if he doesnt stick to his word?????

P.S.my name is Ramon, not his!

My buddy Tonyc had his car detailed recently and it looked great. But I still don't think it's worth paying $300 to $500+ to have some highschool drop out run a buffer over your car. To each their own however :)

Though one owns a high end car, doesn't necessarily mean they know how to care for it(or have the time). Various people own luxurious Egyptian cotton sofas, the first thing that comes to mind on how to clean that sofa is wrong.

I'm with you, nobody else drives it and nobody else cleans it, which is why I bought over $200 worth of product AND the D/A at the Meguiars tech session.

PS - Have any of you used that Mr. Clean home car washing device that has the water ionizer/PUR water filter for the water supply?
Sure need a source of good water for washing cars in the Valley.
