Hey all, Whats the best public golf course in the Dallas area? I'm looking to get into golf but I don't have a membership anywhere that I can play at, so I'm looking for recommendations. Thanks in advance.
I like Tennyson. The West course has been redesigned and it is awesome. I30 and Dolphin Road. Stevens Park is nice when we have had enough rain, but if it's been dry you can loose a ball in the cracks. Fun course though, lots of elevation changes. LB Houston was good back in the day, have not played there in a while. Twin Creeks is pricey but nice. Bear Creek lacks shade, but makes up for it in looooong par 5's.
I don't play golf anymore, but high end public would be like Tour 18 and Four Seasons wouldn't it? I think there are several nice public courses, I like the Cowboy course as close and great practice areas.
If you are near Flower Mound I play at Bridlewood. It is a nice public course that has a player improvement program. I try to get out there 3-4 times a week. Cheers Harris
I played 18 holes at Hawks Creek today next to the NAS. (old Carswell AFB) I really enjoyed it despite I haven't played in 15+ years. www.hawkscreek.com
there are a few "hi-end" public course in the DFW. Here are a few I play and are frequently ranked in the top 10: Cowboys TPC 4 seasons Texas Star Links at Waterchase Bridlewood. Tenison is a Dallas Muni and is considered to be "best"of the munis. However the conditions are avg at best and take over 5hrs to play on weekends. In addition all bunkers and some fairways are currently going thru a renovation. Also theres a crime issue at Tenison, so I'd advise against driving your exotic there. FORE!!!
I actually hit the Cowboy range for the first time in 3-4 years. I hit the ball great for first 50 and then just got tired and started hitting worse shots. Parked across a young guy I didn't recognize in the Cowboys Employee/Player parking and later had to ask him a question about the putting green. Have no idea who he was, some Cowboy player.
I would definitely suggest the Cowboys course. It is pricey, but very nice, and you can play another round for $25 or so if you want to keep going. That's not something they advertise, but I've done it several times.
I forgot to add the Tribute in Lewisville to the list. Cowboys is $180 (includes food and non aloholic bevs). $25 replay. the Practice areas are nice.
Now I'm starting to remember why I don't play golf anymore. Although now I can afford it verse when I first moved to DFW out of college, anything over $30 a round is just ridiculous to me. The typical $80-200 green fees is almost beyond comprehension when I grew up playing the best courses in Kansas for under $30. In Salina, Kansas we had a nice muni course that was $7 a round. I just found this link of Top 20 courses in Kansas, although several have been built since I left Kansas in 1992, I have played about half of these. Haven't played any on the Texas list. http://www.golflink.com/top-golf-courses/state.aspx?state=KS
Kosmo is right on with his picks. I play the same courses. I've also played at Coyote Ridge a couple times in the past few months. Nice little course. If your just getting into golf, go to a driving range and hire a pro for a few lessons. You'll be a LOT less frustrated when you hit the courses. Try Top Golf. It's a great way to break into golf and make it fun at the same time. http://www.topgolf.com/Locations/US/Dallas/Default.aspx
I have played at a number of Dallas area munis. The one's below are always good bets. Grapevine Municipal Texas Star Steven's Park Cedar Crest Tenison Sherrill Park Castle Hills (Lewisville) Twin Creeks (Allen) Riverchase (Coppell) Firewheel (Garland)
LOL I haven't played a round in 10 years and hadn't been to the range in 5 years. Let me have a few more range visits and I would like to get out for a round. Surprised I still had my swing, I just tired quickly. Short game is shot though. Let me know who is interested, maybe I should do a couple scrambles first. FChat team?
Another vote for Texas Star. If you have not played Iron Horse in North Richland Hills you might check it out. Easy to get on and reasonable. Not in the niceness of Cowboys but Fossil Creek is pretty good and much less expensive. Fort Worth just off I-35 and Western Center.......
Same here (up for an outing and haven't played in a long time). Last month while in Florida I played my first round of golf in 10 years. Actually went out and shot a 66(!!!), but then the back 9 just killed me... I've been to the driving range a few times since and my swing is actually coming back nicely. I'd love to play more often.
I live on a private course just east of DFW. I'd be open to a foursome if we can get a core group out this way. Otherwise, I'd love to participate in an fchat outing in the DFW area.
I will look into a FChat scramble team for some local charity events, but anyone give me holler to go play, my schedule is flexible.
