How much do you spend on detailing services in a year? Do you do it yourself or hire a pro? I ask because of another thread I came across http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=138715475#post138715475 where a new detailer wants to charge up to $3000. I personally use California's best, Superior Shine for my stable, and when I hit $300o it's because he detailed 3-4 cars to perfection.

Doesn't the transport to and from Canada end up costing more than $3000? That is where you're from - not Hollywood.

I do it all myself - takes a full day for me - using Griot's Garage stuff (cuz his main shop is
just a few miles from me). So my initial investment of around $300 will last quite some time
to come. Probably the pros do a much better job, but I don't mind doing it myself. It's at
least something on my 328 I feel comfortable doing myself!

I use a guy who details for Barrett's. He does various level of work depending on how far you want to take detailing... anywhere from a one day job where he does the usual wash/wax/buff all the way to multi-day jobs where he's preparing the car for a show (he will clean internals and undercarriage as well using machinery). Costs vary accordingly.

As a detailer, I say it depends on the job.

The going rate for a basic 2-3 step polish/wax will run in the $150-200 range

Paint correction (complete swirl removal) adds some hours to that, so that price can almost double depending on the detailer.

The absolute best guys out there will bill $80/hour, but they're also taking 20+ hours on the car and do it to absolute concours perfection. These guys are insured to work on cars well into the million dollar range. The logic is that paying them 3 grand might add 10-15 grand to the value of your exotic.

Some gladly pay it without question, an alarming number flake, others feel that they can do the best job themselves (or are happy slapping on a coat of cleaner wax and calling it a day).

As the owner/operator of a full service mobile auto salon here in Orange County, we price our details based on size and condition of the vehicle....I offer my customers a choice of packages to choose from, they have been created to provide a service catered to what the vehicle needs are......not someones ego...... I do a complete evaluation of the vehicle prior to starting, and if the customer requests a package that does no justice for the vehicle my job is to educate them. On the average a customer can expect to spend between $300 - $400 for an exceptional detail and if show or concours is the name of the game then you can expect to pay anywhere from $600 - $1200 depending on the vehicles and customers needs....

We recently spent over 40 hrs polishing and detailing a vehicle for the 2009 Los Angeles Concours de Elegance and we charged accordingly....This vehicle has a value of over 2 million and when we perform this type of job we definately take into consideration the big "L" (liability) when charging the customer.

I have gone with fellow FChatter tropicaldetail, and very very highly recommend him. Many here in FL (and across the country, actually) call him one of the best in the business.

Charges vary by how much you want or need done, as stated above. After seeing Todd's results, I know for a fact I could not have done anywhere near as well myself.

Even if you only do it once and then maintain it from there, there is no substitute for a top quality professional job. Worth every penny.

PS. Tell Todd Paul sent you... :)

Your car looks absolutely RAVISHING in this photo - if I lived in that area I would hire him in a heartbeat based on your photo.

Although quality is of utmost importance, I feel that I should chime in here. There are a small handful of detailers in Portland, Oregon that do excellent work. However, after shopping around at the ones mentioned on Fchat and through other sources, I feel it is in your best interest to shop around.

Most of the shops wanted $300-$500 for a full exterior for my 355 Spider--a reasonable sum for the work involved. That included clay barring and taping and masking with a cut and polish.

The first shop I went to (one mentioned often in local threads), however, quoted $900-$1000. Not all Ferrari owners are so wealthy they automatically pay whatever is asked of them. My jaw hit the floor and that is why I shopped around.

Anyway, just a heads up as shopping around for any service is good thinking.

Same here average detail is 3 to 400.00 depending on how far we go... We have done a few $1500 to $3000 jobs on vintage italian cars...
