I have always lived in Portland until recently and now reside in Vancouver. My H1 is registered at my office in Portland and I have yet to get a Washington Driver license. I guess I better be legal and register the F-car here...I heard that I have to own a vehicle 3 months prior to moving to Washington and then I don't pay sales tax??? Is that true?? Also, is there a DEQ here in Washington or emmissions test you need to pass???

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Mike,

I'm not sure abou the tax deal but if you can figure it out it'll save you some money! As for the emissions it is only required in certain areas, mainly around Seattle/Tacoma and Spokane. You should be safe in Vancouver.

I would leave the 348 registered with Oregon plates until they run out then change them. I think 6 months is the minimum.

Ya, I heard 3 months. You purchase a car and m,ove to washington after 3 months and no sales tax. With my current $10,000plus bill it might be advantageous to wait 3 months or 6 which ever it is. I will just call DMV tomorrow and inquire. 7% wouldn't feel to good

side note. Pick up the car tomorrow. New entire engine out full re-service, switched to the rightway rear tires, drilled pedals, entire brand new two disc clutch (ouch) and a full detail. Shop figured that if you spend over 10 dimes they would throw a detail job in for free. hahaha

Anbd I thought about what you said. Rain or shine, drivewn the piss out of it after spending all that dough

My mistake, but actually parts of Clark County are included and parts aren't. Looks like it will depend on exactly where you live.

My 328 passed with test pipes last year. If your car is in perfect tune and well warmed up and (BIG AND) they don't know what to visually inspect for you're home free. :)

or... you could just register it in Washington since you live in the state. The Department of Revenue has way too many resources that look for people who try to avoid WA sales tax / use tax.

Prime example... on airplanes you have to register with the feds only. You "should" register it with a state. Those people who do not register an airplane with the state get caught and then have to pay the sales tax / use tax and back fees.

Airplanes are a bit easier than cars because everytime you go get fuel, the tail number gets written down whereas a car license plate number does not.

Mike, you might also want to check with the local WA state dept. of license office or an agent. ( Check the phone listings, agents are all over Clark county). They will give the exact amount to the penny in a minute or less.
