In Maryland you can already have a special plate here is the link: http://mva.state.md.us/bin/i/b/Ferrari-Club.gif, Example below.

There is a plate for Penn but it is just Sports car....

In Delaware you can apply for special plates, such as the Ferrari Club of Mid-Atlantic. You just need enough registrations to be considered-200? If Maryland can have one Delaware should. There seems to be some exceptions but need a rep from the Club to contact DMV. Some details are below. Perhaps this may even be combined with Penn as they seem to work closely together. Perhaps we could get a count from the club and start the ball rolling. I have a mock up of a Delaware plate and the one from Maryland.

    DELAWARE ORGANIZATIONAL PLATES
Non-profit organizations may apply for a special license plate for members of the organization. The law requires a minimum of 200 applications from a specific organization before the Division may approve the issuance of the plate. There is an exemption for university or high school alumni associations who only need 25 applications. Exemptions have also been written into the law for a number of other organizations, that have been authorized a plate with less than 200 applications. There is a one-time fee of $10 for each organizational special license plate.

Organizations wishing to apply for a special license plate should appoint a member of the organization to work with the Division. Contact DMV at (302) 744-2503 to speak to a registration specialist who can provide you with information on procedures to design and develop a special license plate.

    OTHER ORGANIZATIONAL PLATES
The Division has a number of special license plates for members or former members of certain groups or organizations. Specific eligibility restrictions apply when applying for one of these plates. Division registration specialists can provide information on the requirements and can provide anyone qualified with an application. Please call one of your local DMV facilities for information on eligibility requirements for these plates: New Castle County (302) 326-5000, Kent County (302) 744-2500 or Sussex County (302) 853-1000. Press "0" for operator assistance and select Option "4" to speak with a registration specialist.

Can anyone take this forward as I am rather new and have yet to buy my car.

    Thanks

Check w/Dave B. as there may be some issues using Ferrari or FCA logo and licensing/approval issues -- we may have gotten this done under the radar screen. If you use FCA logo, perhaps run it by your Regional Director? Good-luck. Would be nice to see these tags in DE and PA

Contact Bill Ebert @ 703-777-5648 [email protected]. He's the Mid-Atlantic FCA Regional Director. We've looked at this in the past but didn't find enough interest to pursue it. Perhaps Bill can give you more insight.

I believe we actually tried to do them for VA a couple of years back. It was a major PITA to get it done IIRC. Maybe it's different now. Again Bill is gonna be the best source for info about authorization of the use of the FCA logo.

    Steve,

Got your e-mail and found this post. We looked into the VA program to develop a special license plate for FCA-MAR members here in VA. We found that the process in VA is very restrictive aand cumbersome, as opposed to MD. In VA it takes a minimum of 350 pre-paid applicants to submit their applications (Form VSA 10) through their sponsor, e.g., the regional director, to get the process started. Then you wait about 9 months for the first plate to be issued. Since our region, which covers VA,WV,DE,MD and DC, has a total of around 320 members, it would be near impossible to meet the 350 number for VA tags. You have a similar problem in DE unless you could get the special 25 applicant minimum mentioned in your previous post and even that might be difficult. I don't think there is a problem using the MAR or FCA logo. The MD members who have the FCA logo plate have not had a problem. If you want to proceed with the DE effort to get the 25 minimum, press on. I will support you as the sponsor and I can provide you with a .jpg of the MAR or FCA logo, as needed. Only FCA members will be eligible for the plate.

    Hope that helps.

    Bill

    Bill,

Thanks for the mail and appreciate the support. Let me check into the potential of the Delaware exception policy. Do we have enough depth in the state 25 or more? It would be good if we could get a count and possibly estimate a percentage of people that would opt in. Do you know what the success rate was in Maryland above 70% or more? Do you also have stats on Ferrari owners in Delaware perhaps from Ferrari, we could possibly have a mailing to check on interests and cross compare against the current FCA membership. If I weren't a member, I would become one if I could have the plate. We probably also have some members like me that are waiting for their first car. My 1999 355 comes after another 70 pounds is shed-deal with the wife.

    Thanks again.

    Steve

    Bill,

Just got a call back from Delaware DMV-Maria Williams. She mentioned that the exceptions were restricted to Schools. Do we have a Ferrari school as part of the FCA learning center?? This may be stretching it. Anyway, looks like we would need depth 200 or more applicants- do we have that many in Delaware Ferrari owners that are not FCA that we may be able to become a member or FCA members proper.

    Thanks

    Steve

FCA learning center? LOL... I actually kind of like that idea.... go to school before you're allowed to have a ferrari.... You're asking some questions we don't have the answers to.... truth be told I'm sure there are more owners in Delaware than actual FCA members. We couldn't tell you how many actual owners there are since we only track members that join FCA. I'm pretty sure FNA isn't going to divulge that info either. Hear's a thought though create a thread on here asking Delaware owners to get in touch with you either through PM or e-mail and move forward from there. Who know's maybe there are 200 people out there we could round up to join FCA-MAR and get a spiffy tag like we have in MD.
