    The car looks much better now with the black registration plates and wider Borranis! What is that latest date a car can be (legally) fitted with black plates (probably like the Jan 73 tax exemption just before my Daytona was registered in September 73 :( )?

    I'm pretty sure that is spot on.
    Black number plates with white or silver characters appeared on vehicles manufactured before 1973 and are now legal to be carried only on vehicles built prior to 1 January 1973.
