You mean, you want MORE crashes per race????? :)

Nascar is 30 laps of boredom followed by smoke, bent metal, flames and sparks followed by 30 laps of boredom followed by.... well, you get it.

What does impress me though is the cameras in the cars. Some of the cameras are pretty remarkable especially when the cars are side-by-side. They do know how to make good TV.

He was obviously a passenger in the car long before he even passed the first dryer. No fault of his.

Apparently, he reported something like "it's broken, won't turn, doesn't feel right" prior to the pitstop - The crew clanked around some and sent him back out - Straight into that mess!

    Cheers,
    Ian

From Autosport - Seems like both cars suffered the same fate.......

Seems they've got some work to figure what broke.....

    Cheers,

No sir I my intent is only in regards too the lost racing. I do understand that highspeed ovals are different than roadcourses yet imho races can be run until a "A River Runs Through It" just like F1. If the oval is deemed unsafe how about diverting the race onto the roadcourse and giving the fans alittle something and rescheduling the oval shootout?

    Just an opinion/idea.

Not his fault, you just hate the guy. Sad.

    See the above.

Wow, A pic of a Toleman from 1984!

They could - on road courses and short, flat ovals, but do you REALLY THINK they can sustain continuous speeds of 175-200mph flat out for 40 laps on all the high-speed ovals?
And, we are talking 3600 lb cars here, not 1200 lb F1 cars.

LOL, go do some research on just exactly what this 'fuel injection' really is.

Guys, I'm not beating on any one of you, but this is 3600 lb stock car racing, it's not Indycar, it's not F1, it's not WRC, it's not TransAm, it's not Supercars.
Stop trying to make it into something that it isn't.

(OK, this 'fuel injection' is really 25 year old throttle body technology).

Because that's where the fans ARE for the 500. The infield road course is simply unavailable.

Your right and it would be impossible for that to happen, it was a good idea though right?

I really like how NASCAR has two road courses on their schedule and its great to see them there. It really adds to the variety of tracks and the ability it takes to drive them. I hope one day to attend one of those road course races.

I have been at Daytona for some vintage racing where they use the road course and they had one group of stock cars. It wasn't much fun to watch them as them seemed so slow especially when going around the two horseshoes. Its just too tight of a circuit for those cars and I would've rather watched them on the regular NASCAR track.

On a side note, its been discussed several times the idea of adding the chicane on the back stretch before turn 3 that's included in the road course to the NASCAR track as a way to slow the cars down and break up the pack that all the drivers hate.It certainly would be interesting to see how it would affect the racing. Perhaps leave the Daytona 500 as is and then add the kink into the course for the Coke/Zero 400 in the summer.

As for racing in the rain, they rain a Nationwide race a few years back in the rain at Montreal I believe and it was pretty wild. They had to add a wiper to the car and many didn't work as the air kept them from touching the windshield. Most of the drivers had little to no experience racing in the rain. It was very entertaining. :)

    So what?

Race on the road course, and hey, if someone crashes into an RV and lights up some propane tanks, hey, we are used to that now, comes with the territory.

There was absolutely no doubt in my mind they would repave it.
