The OEM CV joint boot kits I bought (355) come with a tube of 90 grams of grease. The workshop manual calls for 140 grams of grease. That's a substantial difference.

Anyone know what's going on here? Getting ready to re-pack the joints and I don't want to end up putting too little grease in the joints. What's the worst that can happen if I put in "too much" (140 grams)?

You can NEVER put enough grease on CV joints mate. :D:D

Just pack the CV substantially and you will be fine. :):)

It may end up being 300 grams you put in there.:eek:

Pack the grease in the CV joint, chock it FULL!!!!!! Then, slip the axle shaft in and thats it. :D:D

Do not fill the CV boot up with grease. That is pointless and just gets it all messy. ;);)

Seems odd Ferrari would pack 90 grams of grease in the boot kits (why not 100g?). Also seems odd the workshop manual specifies 140 grams (why not 150?).

If more is better, why not 250g?

Because they are business and they need to make money. :D:D

The pack JUST enough grease in there to do the job. ;);)

Why put in 250g when 140g does the job. The cost of the extra 100g of grease all adds up you know. ;);)

You should see how cheap car manufacturers when it comes to wheel bearing grease. JUST enough in there to do the job, to get the wheel bearings to their service schedule. Which is around 20,000 km on most cars. I am not talking about the sealed units, im talking about the tapered roller bearings that you can repack. :):)

Put in your 140g mate, doesnt bother me. :):)

I repack my CV joints till I think there is enough in there. It may be 200g more than what they recommend, thats life. Better than not having enough. ;);)

Nothing is going to happen IF you put in 250g of grease in there. The only thing that will happen is you will be $5 more out of pocket.:eek:

Ha Ha! Yeah, we all know how much Ferrari needs to scrimp to make $ from each sale :D

I'm with Pap :p ... I packed the joints full by forcing as much as I could in the joint by hand, and a lot extra in the boot. As long as it doesn't leak, I'd say more is better and extra insurance if you do get a leak.

Okay, I think I'll go on the high side. I would be concerned though that if WAY too much grease were put in it might force its way out and land on a catastrophic converter if the heat shield did not block it at the exit point. That might be an ugly problem....
