    Hi Guys,
I'm new to CT and to my 348 TS. I will need to get an emissions test before registration and I am not sure what to expect. The car just had a major back in June, has 51,000 miles on it and seems to be in generally good shape. Any advice on fuel, parts etc. that would help bring a positive out come would be great.

Do you have a good old fashioned service station near you where you can have them run most of the emissions measurements to give you an idea of what you have before you go for the official test?

Maybe you don't have anything to worry about.

    ***CAUTION***

The 348 front end ground clearance can be a problem for emmision Dyno's. Find a shop with an inground dyno. I use the one in Old Lyme but I'm sure there are more around.

The present Connecticut specs for our 348's are nothing like the new car specs. Even if your car was running crappy, it should still pass easily. Mine aced the exam with 7 years on an old Major.

    No worries.

    Hey Mike,

I used a place in Willimantic that had good ground clearance. My only advice is tach it out a few times on your way to the test :) Clear it out a it.

Sounds good. It runs good, but don't want to have any issues. I'll run it out a few times before it goes.

Sweet. I am worried about a service tech jumping in and driving into a bay with anything high enough to rip off the frontend. I also worry about those who do not pay attention to the shift pattern. I will look around for some good shops with in ground dynos.

I'll be there this Sunday, already planned it. Hopefully the weather will good enough to have dry roads so I can take the 348. Do you guys meet no matter what or only on the dry Sundays? Rocky Hill is very close, 10 minutes from me.

Fantastic...in 'season' we get some cars even on rainy days (check the 2008 gathering thread). Right now it'***** or miss, depends on weather and schedules.

The guy in Old Lyme was not only real nice but he respected the requirement that nobody drives the car but me. He allowed me to pull it in and witness/supervise the car handling process. The car was new to me by a few days at that point. (I've lightened up a lot since then)

I'm looking forward to seeing the car and meeting you at SBucks.

I am down here in Fairfield County with a 2002 360 from MA set to arrive. As I understand it, I'll have to complete the following in this order:

    1. Go to DMV, get temp plate
    2. With temp plate, go to CT Emissions testing with temp plate
    3. Once test passed, go to DMV for permanent registration

The dealer offered to do this, but I didn't feel comfortable with them driving it around in an area they know little about. With this great weather this winter (kidding of course) I am in no rush to get this registered, nonetheless wanted to ask everyone a few questions:

    1. Does a 2002 model need to go up on a Dyno? The last time I went to any emissions test (it was years ago mind you), they checked the car via the exhaust.
    2. If not on a Dyno, then how...please don't tell me someone has to plug something into the ECU and "F" the whole car up.
    3. Has anyone applied for a delay or time extension (I'd cite the winter weather and the vehicle in storage as reasons)?

    Thanks in advance,

I have spent too many hours dealing with emissions and the fun Folks at the DMV, I have used the nice people at Portland Automotive for the Dyno test and OBDII test

    For the 348 ts
I wouldnt be shy about putting in 3 or so bottles of pure Isopropyl alcohol, ie gas line anti freeze ( not the pharmacy kind) , if you dont Pass the test. This helps if your the cats are not working up to snuff from age or mileage.

    For the 360,
You must get your emission test done before the nice folks at DMV will give you hard plates, The emission test also doubles as a VIN verification on out of state vehicles. SO as long as there are no Check Engine lights ablaze on the Dash it is a simple plug into your OBDII port on your car, No treadmill ( DYNO) abuse. Most Cars 1996 and Newer should be using the plug in test. Dont worry about the plug in test, it is safe. There was a recall for some earlier ferrari's 360's , regarding a wire that was left out of the OBDII Port which would result in a FAIL on the emission test. Ferrari forgot a grounding wire , Emission test stations are aware of this problem and can use a cig lighter adapter to allow the system to recongnize the missing ground and allow the car to Pass.

Also dont get temps unless your ready to go , DMV are not good about giving additional temps out.

This little toy will tell you if you are going to pass the OBDII test for '96 and newer vehicles. Even if your check engine light isn't lit up, you can still fail the test. If any of the wrong codes show up, the MIL is on, or you have the wrong I/M monitors incomplete, you will fail. This little guy allows you to clear existing codes. Be aware that after you clear the codes, you need to drive the car and cycle it through enough driving situations to ensure the codes don't show back up, and that all the I/M monitors have reset to complete. Pays for itself the first time you don't have to take any of the stable to the mechanic because you would have failed an emissions test.

I have tried, without success, to move the test date of one of my vehicles. I filled out the paper work and made a formal request because the vehicle was in storage during February. Denied! I needed proof the car was in storage, like a receipt from the storage facility. I told them "Its in my own garage". They responded "Well then you should be able to take it to emissions". It was suggested that I get the vehicle tested early, up to 60 days, and than I would have two years from that earlier date. This method would allow you to back up the date until you got a month you liked. The problem was I still had to drive it in December. The solution was, pay the late fee, $10.00. In the world of F cars, that's free.

What is the name of the place in Old Lime with the floor dyno? I'm headed off this week to get my test hopefully then get this beast on the road. New 02's, no codes, no leaks and everything looks nice and tight!
