    Hey Frank,

I was heading over to DuPage Airport today in the Ferrari and ended up getting ENGULFED by a million Corvettes there. I guess there is a HUGE Corvette show going on at Pheasant Run this weekend. I am surprised your not there checking it out...

That's the annual Bloomington Gold show at Pheasant Run resort. Gave me the inclination to stop in Geneva and get my Porsche 928 up and running for the season. My daily is a Carrera 4, but I've missed the raw feel of the '83 euro 928s. Got quite a few thumbs up from some of those American plastic V8s & gave quite a few in return. Some of those old Vettes are stunning!

Hey,Tod and David! Yes,My first Love are Corvettes...I may Cruise through there tommorrow and take a looksee. That is the "Bloomington Gold" Corvette Show. It is THE biggest, and most important show in the Corvette World. Cars that get "Bloomington Certified" immediately zoom up in Price...very Prestigious....:)

It used to be held in Bloomington,IL.,hence the name. But,for some reason,(I've been out of the 'Vette World for awhile....) They put it here at St.Charles,IL. "Pheasant Run". There are some very Unique,Old,Racing,etc....Corvettes. Definitely worth looking at no matter what you drive.

But,IMHO,the Older Corvettes,(Generation C3-'68 to '82) are one of the most beautiful,Cool,Exotic looking Cars ever made. Especially the '68- '72 models...Before the '70's Oil Crisis and the EPA just killed the 'Vettes and all Muscle Cars, really. I like the older ones and the newer ones, too. But,a '69 Convertible, with a 427 Cu.In. 435 "Insurance Rated" Horsies.....Thats what I'm talkin' 'bout.....:) Yeah, the mid 70's to early '80's cars are Dogs. But,still look cool,AND a Chevy Small Block is about the easiest Motor that you can Build up. Parts and High Performance goodies galore. Simple. You can get up to 500-700 HP out of 'em,easily, and not expensive to do.

David,I'd really like to see your 928. I've always liked those cars, too, and would like to know more about them.

Tod,how are you doing? Glad to hear that you are out and about. I have to have another Surgery on my Bad Leg in the next week or so. Owwww...:(

O.K. I have the low down on area Cruise Nights,if anyone is interested. And,I must say. I was at Lombard last nite, passing out Flyers for the VA Show. I talked to everyone that I gave a Flyer to. Car Guys/Gals are about THE Best Folk there is. No matter what They drive...no matter what You drive. If you love Cars, the Comaraderie is great.

I also got quite a few Flyers for some other upcoming shows. Haven't had a chance to go through them all yet. But,if there is something that looks really good,I'll post it.

I was talking to a kid with a 1966 Pontiac GTO....which was my very First Car. I told him that I was 15 Years old when I bought mine back in 1975,(for $300.00!) and that those cars will always have a special place for me,(Sniff, getting all Misty eyed.....:)). He told me that he wasn't even Born yet. What a buzz.

O.K. Enough of that. Here's the list....Fresh from "Chicagoland Gearhead News" Magazine.....(Events,Cars,Bikes,Racing,News,Info.)

And Remember. These are all free. And,Arrive "the Earlier the Better" if you want to Park, maybe get a Bite to Eat. Lots of Great spots to Eat and have a Cold one. Bring that special someone. If you have kids, bring them along and show them how Cars "Used to be". You keep hearing, "I used to have one of those".,Or,"My Dad had one of these"...."My Grandpa...." ETC... Pretty Cool. And,My Ferrari ALWAYS gets alot of Recognition....:) Your Special Car will too,I am sure. Or just Cruise through....If there are a few going on the same night, just Cruise through all of them. Always lots of Cool Cars.
You MUST Check out the Giant Skull Car at Lombard on Sat. Nites.

Wheeling? Palwaukee Plaza is not in the greatest part of the northern suburbs.

Hoffman Estates? That place listed is a strip mall where I have seen nothing but rice rockets and a lot of Hoffman's finest camped out for a stellar speed zone ticket. I think they have a Subway and a DQ for fine foods. I have never seen anything resembling a show unless you count 4 Evos and 3 WRX's facing each other and racing up and down the parking lot.

Crystal Lake is fun, well organized. However it is filled a lot of muscle cars and rice and I don't ever remember seeing a European exotic. One night I decided to go a Model-T Ford owner asked me to move because the Maranello was drawing attention away from his car. I don't get it, some of the owners and kids there were really snobby despite what is a great location and that is set up wonderfully. Unfortunately a lot of people do burn outs just missing kids walking the busy streets.

Barrington is probably the best I went to last year. Nice location, good restaurants nearby, a good mix of cars. I saw 5 Ferraris and one Murci there one night. You can walk around and check out the cars and then take two turns and walk through a park with the kids or buy some ice cream for the lady in your life.

Frank, do you remember when Flukie's (sp? Fluky's? ) restaurant in Niles used to have them? Fun food, all 50s and 60s muscle cars? That fit the atmosphere well.

Hey,don't shoot the messenger, here! I personally have not visited every one. I basically stick to Elmhurst,Downers Grove, and Lombard, myself. But might want to scope out some others some time. But,I just posted EVERYTHING that was listed so that there was something for everyone, anywhere. Up to you if you wanna go...

Is Palwaukee Plaza at Milwaukee Av. and Wheeling Rd.? Where "Haymakers" used to be?

Yeah, there is (was?) an old 50's Style Drive-In down around 86TH. and Harlem that Always had Cruise nights on the Weekends....I believe it was called "Dukes Drive In",or something like that. Not sure if it's still there or not. Exactly like what you described as "Fluky's". Over in Lombard years back,it used to be at the old "Dog & Suds",then it changed to a "Cock Robin". Now,all gone. So,it's the Cruise Nite, now.

But,a tad before my time,it was "Skips Fiesta" on North Av.,just East of 1st. Av.in Melrose Park. That place was legendary. They STILL hold "Skips Reunions" and Swap Meets at the Lake County Fair Grounds for all of the Folks who used to hang out there. My Uncles, who are in their mid-late 50's used to. Betcha our very own Skip went there,too.....:)

BTW....a Buddy of mine and his Wife are opening up a New Italian Restatraunt in Lombard,on Roosevelt Rd. called "Ciao Bella". It used to be in Glen Ellyn. Not a Cruise Nite place. But,I know he'd like to see some Bella Italian Machinery in his Parking Lot,anytime....:) I just stopped by there, and it's looking great. Coming along nicely, and should be open in a couple weeks. Stop by sometime! This place is gonna be really nice. You should see the Kitchen.....:)

Frank put together a long list of places that hold some sort of car night. I know Rocketboy provided a breakdown of a bunch of these places so that we could get an idea as to what is what. Besides Rocketboy has anyone gone to any of the places listed?
If anyone is up for it shoot me a PM or just attach your thoughts to this thread..
    Just checking?

RocketBoy is just a very angry and unstable young man. I wouldnt trust his take on any of the drives... but in all seriousness instead of just posting and getting ideas, why not just call each other up and go? Vince has my cell number, I have Andreas' and Skip's. Call a day or two before one, say you're going, then meet. This summer seems to have been more expectation than actual driving compared to last year right? Maybe Im just confused and blinded by DaveB's, Frank's and Chuck's fun fall exploits of last year, but this summer still seems kind of slow. There has to be a happy medium from city meets and out in the burbs. Even if its amongst ourselves as in more than one commitment to the LSD drive, a F1 GP lunch actually happening, or all of us parking together at a village drive in.

    RocketBoy

PS: Star City rocks! But that Russian is lazy and should have been canned from the launch due to his ditching of proper tests in favor of a 348 in Vegas.

What time to you want to meet? Unfortunately for Tuesday, I don't think I would be free till around 8pm and would have to bail around 9-9:30. If you want to see me in a Ferrari, well as you know with the new place and all I think you're going to have to wait till I win the lottery. I can always steal the old one though.

I was wrong about this one, but just in the location sense. There is a rival show, more so meet of ricers in a similar mall on Algonquin, just 2 minutes north.

I did wind up at the Hoffman meet by accident as I was shopping for paint at Menards. Same conclusions, many rice rockets and few muscle cars. Only plus is that there is a Garibaldis nearby which has awesome Cheesy Beefs and Pizza. As for cars, if you fly solo you most likely will be out of place and quite bored... I dare say even annoyed. Go as a pack of Ferraris, you might have fun seeing your buds and the reaction from the crowd. But I think your time will be much better spent elsewhere. You really want to see this meet? Just look out over the road while driving home today as you'll see the same normal sites. Nothing wrong with people taking pride in their cars, but a award winning Boxer and fun gal in a TDF 355 are a little more rare and special than a lime green Celica with wings and an 80s Vette that hasn't been washed in 3 years.
