After Al's passing IMSA, imo, was just never the same albeit the racing was still good yet I kept looking for his car to come around the corner.

Hearing how much effort and cost it takes to run these cars makes me even more appreciative when I get a chance to see them in person. Living close to Daytona gives me the opportunity to watch them lap the track during the historic racing and exhibitions. I really enjoy photographing them. It must be thrilling to actually get to drive these time machines around the track and if I could I would :)

I miss the Indy Car. They were on to something and given enough time, they were going to win. Sadly, it all had to come to an end. The race shop today is a children daycare/pre-school and the Porsche dealership building is a.......(forgive me Al)...a stinking KIA dealership. Thompson Toyota of Doylestown, Pa, took the VW house and has all of it under one roof. I don't think I will ever step foot in the place simply because that will always be Holbert's to me. I do miss seeing the 962 because when you walked it....it just drew you to it. I don't doubt they sold a lot of cars because of it.

    That is sad.

Al was a true "Gentleman Racer", crap I'm getting a tad 'misty eyed' just reminiscing about those glory days.

A lot of the value of 935s and other cars of that era depends on their accomplishments.

Some which may have won championships or important races, yes, they're quite valuable
but the swath is pretty wide.

I had a Kremer K2 in Vaillant livery in Europe on the line last year. This car had won
numerous important races across Europe, driven by all the top pilots of the time and it
    was quite reasonably priced.

With racing cars, a lot also depends on if the car comes with spares (mechanical, body work, tires, etc.)
because if it does not, obtaining replacement parts is difficult if not next to impossible.

a TRUE 935 is well over $600k today and ones w/ serious history are well north of that.

Remember the drug dealing Bros that were in GTP ?

They were notorious, I think they were driving a March GTP & had a P-51 Mustang

Forget their name but they sounded like fun guys to hang with :)

All us old dogs got carried away from your initial question so here is my take. I can/will assume the DP Corvette is a hoot to drive with a more linear power band. Yet as a boost junkie I think the 'slap in the back' when full boost hit in the GTP 'Vette was just as enjoyable and needed a lot more driver input.

If I am not mistaken both have production based blocks albeit most if not all DP's are aluminum block and not iron like the destroked 4.3 was in the GTP car. I would actually like to know what the cost for a full season was in GTP compared to the current DP cars, I bet they are really close but then again that is just a guess.

I would LOVE to see a 'on track' comparison between the two 'Vettes.

The two who served time were released long ago. One of the three died in 2003 - drug overdose. There continue to be rumors about them including possible involvement with a 3 letter agency and a plane that crashed in the Yucatan with 4 tons of cocaine on board.
