I am in the midst of n engine out on the TR. I am curious about the sealant that was used on the valve cover gasket, it's white and appears to be very effective, more so than the high temp silicone that I typically use (see pitiful picture). Anyone know what is and where I can get?

The only really good white stuff I know of is this stuff made by a German company called Wacker. I use it instead of gaskets to join engine cases on desmoquattro Ducatis. Never leaks, works very well. I will look for the tube I use and post the name.

VW uses a white sealant. Very pricey but it works. Leave it to the Germans to keep the Italian cars from leaking oil :D I used Ultra Black on mine (thats what we use here in the shop on all cars, no problems)

I used the ultra black on mine when I re-assembled. I wanted white to be original, but couln't find it. The car parts place had red, blue, grey, and black made by LOCTITE, and Permatex with subtle property differences between them.

    I hope it doesn't leak!

I use both Hondabond and Permatex Ultra-Grey, with the only difference that I can tell is that the Hondabond is "less thick"....(thinner?)
Both seem to seal extremely well.

I used the Permatex grey "Import" stuff before. Works very well, and actually has strong adhesive properties which makes it very un-fun to dissassemble, and clean. It is recommended for Japanese cars, so is this like the Hondabond?

I had the same question about a year ago when I was putting my 308 back together, so I went to the Ferrari service center here in San Diego to find an answer. I know and trust a couple of the mechanics and they told me they use "Three Bond 1211". They gave me a tube, which they sell for about $30! It is white and they say that it resists breakdown from oil and solvents better than anything else. The tube they gave me was made in Japan. You can also buy it at motorcycle shops too. A friend of mine found some locally for $18. You can goggle it and find a wealth of info about it. I will be using it on the EO on the Boxer this year.

HondaBond, Yamabond 4 are both ThreeBond 1194 it use to be called 1104 but had to be reformulated due to Cancer risk issues it is grey in color and dries to the touch

ThreeBond 1211 is white in color and is semi drying it works very well on cases and valve covers that have rubber grommets passing thru them.

Most import motorcycle shops can order or have them in stock.

Another sealant you can use if you are still having leakage problems is Loctite 5699 it is a light grey color fills large gaps quite well. The only down side for it is it takes close to 2 weeks for full cure strength but it is well worth effort.
