Just to put things in perspective regarding the different approaches to dealing with Covid, I’ve done some numbers comparing the US and Australia based on the ‘per million’ rates:
Aus: 35 per million so around 875 dead base in pop. of 25m
US: 772 per mill so 250,000 dead based on pop. of 325m

IF we had the US rate of 772, the number if dead Aussies would be 19,300 or .08 of the population (normal total annual deaths are around 0.63 per annum)

 

So, just to summarise:

- Hotel quarantine worker from large migrant family gets the virus
- Other member from same family lies to contact tracers about what is almost certainly a cash-in-hand job in pizza bar
- Entire state of 2 million people goes into lockdown
- Authorities find out. Lockdown removed.
- No penalty can be applied to the person who caused the lockdown, but a few people heavily fined for walking on the beach.

Think I'll pour a scotch...
