Had my mind made up to proceed with ordering my new 2008 430 Coupe in black...

Then yesterday my girlfriend and I stopped by the dealer, and saw a metallic black 430 Coupe in the service area...

    WOW! It was gorgeous!

So now she's all for metallic black, and I'm.... well... I'm just not sure now!

Help me out! Post pics of black and metallic black!

And may the best color win!

(She also just requested that if you've got pics of Daytona seats with silver stitching, please post them as well!)

    Thanks in advance... much appreciated.

Never get solid black (Nero)...Get the metallic black (Nero Daytona) which looks MUCH better in person!

The problem with Solid black is swirl marks, dirt, swirl marks, and more dirt! I took delivery of a new car yesterday that was solid black, and even in the delivery section under the bright neon lights I could see lots and lots of swirl mark, although the car is brand new, just polished, and only been in stock for 2 weeks.

On the other hand, I also have a metallic black car, and the metallic effect does wonders in hiding swirl marks and dirt! A good polish every 2-3 months does the job and keeps it looking great!

I prefer Nero (solid black).........Nero Daytona is a lighter black due to the yellow gold metallic parts in it. It does not have the same degree of darkness as the Nero. It is difficult to describe it unless you see both colors together.
Have a paint sample done of both colors and place them together......you'll immediately see the difference.

The metallic looks very cheap in my opinion. It also looks cloudy all the time. There is one on Shelton's floor... not a good color.... but you aren't here for opinions so here's some pics of my last 430 which was Nero and interior was nero with gray piping and stitching.... also a pic of my new 07 430... also nero with nero interior but with red stitching and inserts.

In this aspect......Hiper is very right. Solid black is very sensitive.

Beautiful car Todd, looks really fantastic. Is the nero really that much of a pain in the ass to keep? I mean I don't need to drive a spotless car everyday, I am happy to use the car, get it dirty and give it a good clean once in a while.... Are the swirl marks very obvious?

Unfortunately swirls are most obvious on solid black paint.

Get whatever your heart tells you to get. The only thing I would point out is your GF may not be your GF for ever so do what you think is right. My personal opinion is the metallic black takes on a tiny bit more of a very dark grey look and therefore I generally prefer jet black for a car such as this- but- do what you feel on this one. If you want to go for a metallic color, check out tour de france blue.

    best regards,
    Jerry

nero is nicer but a pain in the ass to keep clean, you also see evry little scar on it
am i the only one who doesnt like piping on the seats?
only deviate stitching is so much more beautiful the piping makes the interior looks old

Thanks for the compliments guys. AS for swirl marks, etc... I LOVE to spend a sunny afternoon detailing my car so i dont have any. Didnt have any on the 05 after 2 yrs either. AS long as you NEVER Fck up and scratch the paint with dirty towel or whatever, swirl marks just don't appear for no reason. Detail your car with GOOD materials and don't have sex on the hood or roof and that black with look deep, sexy and shiny forever. Oh, and I also cover the hell out of my cars with the clear bra for stone chip protection.

Hey guys... Perhaps a slight "rephrase" in order from my origional posting...

When I referred to my girlfriend, I should have actually referred to her as my "very soon-to-be fiance'"... (!!!)

She's a keeper, and I want my F430 to be as well... Thus my very careful analysis and consideration of the right color. :)

Anyway, just wanted to point out this slight -- but oh so important -- distinction...

CHEERS! And thanks much for the insight, ideas, and photos!!

I would also tend to go with Nero over Metallic - having said that, I have not ordered one as such (just Argento Nur, Rosso Corsa and Silverstone here) - Would you consider Nero with a full clear film to mitigate the swirls? And if so, what does that film do for the look of the paint (i.e., depth, shine, etc.) Does it dull its appearance, make it appear more shallow, defeat the purpose of getting Nero to being with?

Silverstone is also quite beautiful.... but don't want to complicate this any further!

I have a Nero F430. It comes as a 2-stage paint, so there is already a clear-coat over the black paint. I also have the clear bra on the front. When it was delivered new in Oct 2006, it had a few swirl marks in the paint. It also had a few areas of hologram effect (shiny black cars due this in spots due to hazing on the surface). A car detail person got all the swirl marks out and the hazing areas.

I agree with 05F430F1, to avoid swirl marks, the secret is to wash the car properly.
Some of the things to consider when washing are:
    - rinse the car extensively with clean water before starting to wash it.
    - wash the wheels with a separate bucket of soap, different towels and brushes.
    - lightly rub the paint of the car with a very soapy clean mitt. The idea is to get the soap foam to lift any remaining dust / dirt from the paint surface. Rinse the soap mitt often in the bucket.
    - rinse initial foam off with clean water.
    - dry with clean soft microfiber towels.

Here is a picture of my 430 when it is shiny:

I do all the above, but instead of microfiber towels, I use a shammy. Are the microfiber towels considered better by most? My cars are red, so the swirls are considerably more difficult to see.

Yes, a good microfiber should be far safer to use on the paint than a shamey. The cheap microfibers can have edge stitching that can scratch, so get good ones from Griots or Autogeek, etc.

I had an F430 in Nero Daytona. Absolutely fantastic color - the lighting, sun or artificial, overcast or sunny -- everything changed how the car looked. Car always looked amazing, and it got more compliments than any car I have ever had. I think plain Nero is dull and boring in comparison. Just my opinion...
