Hi - Anyone have experience with ordering a Maserati color on a Ferrari? I'm thinking about ordering a Ferrari California in Grigio Alfieri - a metallic gray. What would be the downside of ordering a Maserati color on a Ferrari? I don't really love any of the Ferrari silvers. I also really like the Ferrari color Grigio Ferro Met, but I'm not sure it is worth a significant up-charge (maybe $10k) for the classic color. Grigio Alfieri looks very similar to me, and shouldn't be such a huge premium. The car will be a daily driver and I suspect it will get dinged, stone chips, etc - so I want a paint that is findable for future resprays. Thanks in advance! Jim
I think the gray you are considering would be great. I have seen it on several Maserati cars and it is a good balanced color; not too light and not too dark. It is also a good everyday color.
Personally, I like this color, it's cool to the eyes Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Jim, I have a Scuderia coming in Grigio Ferro Met but was very close to using Grigio Nuvolari from Maserati. Yes it was a big up charge. My daily driver is a Maserati Gransport in Nuvolari with a Cuoio interior. After 3 years I still love the combination. It never fails to draw compliments. If and when I order a California it will probably be Nuvolari with the same interior. I too an not in love with any of the standard Ferrari silvers. Either too light or too dark IMO. I think the California would make a great replacement for the Gransport when the time comes. I am sure you will love the car in any of those colors. Have fun.
Both Silverstone and grigio titanio are pretty nice colors...they may be darker than you are considering, but beautiful colors with lots of depth and I would think these would be good for an everyday driver. I have a california on order and was considering the metallic black; is metallic black a bit easier to take care of than non-metallic? I would think the metal flake would help with preventing swirls etc. My present car is actually a dark metallic brown (berwick bronze aston) and is reasonable to keep clean and spectacular when it is in the sun. Anyone have any experience with the ferrari metallic black?
Agonizing over the details is all part of the fun! PPG has been improving the quailty of their paint. Black generally shows dirt faster and reveals more of the swirls in the clear coat. So you have to wash it CAREFULLY every week to keep it looking great without adding a ton of swirls. The Metallic is more forgiving. (If you have a keen eye and seeing dirt and swirls ruins your day, maybe not the glossy black.) Demonstrator cars should be arriving at dealers in a month or two. Perhaps you will be able to see the real car in different colors to help clarify your decision. Also take a look at the 599 in the different colors. The Cali has a similar shape.
Chances are some of you may already know of this site, but I think it is very helpful in terms of giving you a general idea what each color looks like. http://www.ferrari-collection.net/color/index.html Has other interesting stuff as well, like pictures of damaged Ferraris. Ouch...
Hi Jim, my 550 has a non-Ferrari colour that was painted on by the factory when new (in 2000) and it was a big upcharge at the time. I am wondering why you think putting on a Maserati colour would not be so expensive. Personally, I would guess that it would at least as expensive as the Classiche colours. I don't know how the painting works but I assume it's a hassle using a colour that is not in their standard range. In any case - I think you should go with the colour you really like, even if it is not a Ferrari colour. I certainly am grateful the first owner of my car put Porsche Nightblue on my 550 - everyone that sees it comments on the colour. Just as long as you can get that right, then resale value will not be negatively affected and might even be increased. FWIW - Grigio Alfieri would look good on a Cali, methinks. Onno
Unfortunately it shows every cheezy cellulite dimple, rhinestone facet, and ill-conceived cut line. FIAT Calis should be black, like magician's cloaks.
In this thread there are people like Jim who are asking for recommendations because they are interested in this car, we all know you don`t like it but be more respectful and do not throw so much ****
Thanks Manya81, well said. And now, back to Jim's question: Jim: Here is my Maserati in Alfieri. That might give you a clue. The interior is Tabacco. It looks redder in the photos but the color combo is outstanding. I've had it for 7 years and I'm still not tired of it. Hope this helps! It's a legitimate recommendation: Light colors highlight every flaw of design, line and pretense, dark colors will obscure them.
Legitimate.... (throat clearing sounds)... BS. It's time to let the people who actually like this car have some ability to talk freely about it without being attacked or ridiculed. Otherwise, I suggest you go start your own forum: WhyIHateFerrari.com
Thanks, Onno. Apparently the standard Maserati colors are a very little upcharge since Ferrari paints all Maseratis alongside all Ferraris in their paint shop. The standard colors from either firm are already there, in the equipment, and they don't need to do anything special except press the right color button. For custom colors, it is much more difficult. Since I plan to use the car as a daily driver, I'm guessing at some point some part will need a respray (stuff happens to daily drivers), so I want a color that is more-or-less readily available for that eventuality - this is hard with the classiche colors (forgetting the initial upcharge). So...I like the Maserati silvers better. Thanks! Jim
Thanks for the pict! Beautiful! This is very helpful to see a car with somewhat similar lines in the color I'm considering.
I went through the Nero versus Nero Daytona (metallic black) debate for my F430. Ultimately, I went with Nero. Much harder to maintain IMHO, but much more of an "inky black." The Nero Daytona looks great, but it wasn't what I'm used to in black cars. My understanding though is that it is much more swirl resistant.
Very cool to know Jim! I'm the same way with gray/silvers. Too light and kinda blah or just too dark. I've seen a Maser GS around here in a gray that I like too. Brian
Jim- I like the blue and the red. Have not seen yellow yet. Have a feeling that is going to look really good. Disagree on light colors highlighting "faults" because those "faults" are mostly in degrinators' minds. Car looks good to me. Not fond of the pentagram wheels, but both other options look good.
