I have been getting a CEL every 3000 miles or so for the past few years, and the dealer has not been able to fix it. (The car is a maserati, but the information should cross over to Ferrari)

The code is for a bank 1 lean at idle.

Since there is no idle mixture screw to turn out by 1/8 of a turn, how do you fix this?

I've checked error codes I have for 360 and 430 and neither have a corresponding error code or error description.

There are some lean errors on both with suggested diagnosis including check the fuel pumps and pressure, check the exhaust system for leak, check injector and wiring, check ignition coil and wiring, check HC CO emission with no lambda integrator, check engine timing, check valve seals etc.

So, basically it could be quite some number of things. I'd suggest you pull the spark plugs from each side and see are there discernible differences between the two sides and/or are there discernible differences between the individual plugs on each side. This might confirm that you do indeed have a potentially dangerous problem that needs to be rectified (in which case you might stop driving immediately) or perhaps tell you that maybe the problem is with a faulty sensor in which case you might decide to drive on and have it diagnosed properly later on.

    Best of luck.

    Greg,

    Thanks for your input.

This issue has been on and off for 12,000 miles.
The dealer looked at it a few times, to no avail.

If it were a vacuum leak, I would expect it to show up soon after it was cleared.
(same with any other significant issue)
Once I clear the code, it is usually gone for the better part of a year.

Any idea where to look for something that would trigger a code once a year? (3k miles or so)

    Hi Fred,

    I can't offer much more I'm afraid.

Bear in mind that some error codes can be stored without causing the CEL light to come on so maybe the codes are there shortly after clearing but you don't become aware until the CEL lights and you pull codes. You could see if that's the case but even if it is, it probably doesn't advance you towards a cure to any great extent!

Sorry I can't be of more help.
