I'd like tto find some nice cloth seat covers to protect the leather of the much too beige leather seats in my Lusso. Does anyone make sucha thing? I can't find anything for one piece low backseats that many, many cars had back in the day. I've looked at Austin-Healey, Triumph XKE Corvette, etc.. No luck. Any thoughts? Thank you.steve meltzer

It would probably be worth the cost to have a set custom made by a good trimmer. And you could choose the material. That would be, um, fitting for such a great car.

I'd have another seat or seats made to preserve the condition of the original/primary seat or seats, whether they are restored or are original. I wouldn't want any covers concealing the beauty of those bucket seats which would diminish the whole experience.

Would a sheepskin thing be appropriate, and maybe also period correct? It would have to be custom, obviously.

donv, That's precisely what I was thinking! I definitely remember these sheepskin covers back in the day, so that seems reasonable to me. In fact, I think that's the way I'm going to go. Thanks, steve.

Steve-- when you find someone who will do it, let us know. I'm thinking about doing something similar for my 365GT 2+2, since the leather is getting a bit hard.

I’d imagine any local “vintage” VW bug parts supplier has a catalog full of inexpensive universal fit aftermarket seat covers.
JC Whitney, Pep Boys, Rock Auto or Walmart also come to mind.

Costco, I bought a great set for working on cars. Waterproof, fits all vintage seats, even new ones.
Now, for driving you cannot beat the real stuff.
    Good luck!

Ultimately, I've decided not to put on any seat protectors and just be careful with the leather and try not to scratch or dirty it. I personally did not care for the way. the sheepskin looked in sample, but the Sheepskin of Oregon folks were super nice and very helpful. If I were going to do sheepskin seat covers, they would be the ones I'd have do them. They take many, many measurements to be sure they fit well, but I just decided not to do anything at all, and use and enjoy the leather. To wit, i like this maxim: "it's like saving your wife for her next husband".

However, Alberto, can you post or PM the item name, number, etc? When did you buy them?

    Thanks again. Steve.

Steve, unfortunately I do not have the package, nor number.
Bought them at Costco, Novato , CA. store.
I assume any would have it. Best of luck!

Image Unavailable, Please Login Sheeps on my 365GT 2+2 I like them. They are a light grey color. Bad lighting because it is in the garage. And yeah, I know, got to do the headrests. They’re on the to do list.

They look good. I personally don't like leather and prefer cloth the most, then sheepskin second. But those look great.

Thank you. Not sure who made them, but they were on the car in 1987 when my Dad bought the car.

Thanks so much for all the advice, information, and pictures guys. I was all set to buy sheepskin, even spent an hour and a half with the guy getting them measured for sheepskin, when I decided I'm just gonna use the beautiful leather as it is, and be careful and prudent. I did buy a real cheap set of seat covers for when I work on the car or it has to go to the shop. When I made that decision, I couldn't help but remember the axiom "Not using those nice leather seats would be like saving your wife for her next husband". Steve.
