Unfortunately, it won't be worth the effort (as it won't last). Typically, automotive exhaust components use 400 series stainless steel (with about 10% Chromium content) as does this F muffler. It's a material that resists corrosion very well (at reasonable cost), but forms a protective tan oxide film on the surface as in your photo. The "pretty" (and more expensive) stainless steel is the 300 series (which has about 20% Chromium content) -- it holds its polish much better, but will still need repolishing occasionally when used as a high-temperature exhaust component. If you want "pretty" you'll need to buy an aftermarket 300 series stainless steel Tubi, Larini, X-Ost, etc. muffler.

my stainless is yellow/gold from the heat and very hard to polish to chrome-silver again, but the yellow polished also looks good :)
