Clay Regazzoni died this afternoon in a car accident on an Italian Motorway between La Spezia and Parma. RIP
that is very sad. he was a great driver and from what i read, a great person. he also drove the beautiful 312t and t2...they were lovely machines driven by two of the greats. again, very sad.
What a class act and a true gentleman, too bad it was on the street and not on the track, he will be missed.
http://www.corriere.it/Primo_Piano/Cronache/2006/12_Dicembre/15/regazzoni.shtml He was killed trying to pass a truck. I'm somewhat familiar with that road as I have relatives in the area and try to get to Italy as often as possible; the people drive around there as if they are qualifying for a GP... When I first got into F1 he was Lauda's teammate at Ferrari; he almost took the title in 1974... Sad to hear, especially during the holidays....my condolences to him and his family....
A shock to hear this. He was a gentleman and great racer. I witnessed his crash at Long Beach that paralyzed him, I remember wheels flying higher than light poles. It was a grave moment then, and now.
Yes that is sad to hear. I believe he was in his late 60s. Most of my relatives as well live in that area and that highway is something else to drive. If you are not doing at least 150kmh then you will have many giving you the high beams. I hope Clay had just picked up a 599GTB and was doing 200+. That would be the only way a man like him should pass on.
terrible news... he was a great driver and had lots of courage after his paralyzing accident at Long Beach (?) RIP
He was a very nice guy and this is very sad. Thoughts and Prayers. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Yes, it was Long Beach in 1980. I was sitting in the grandstand at the Queen's Hairpin where he went off. (The track was of course totally different in those days.) He was driving for Mo Nunn's under-financed Ensign team. His brake pedal broke off and he went straight on up the (way too short) escape road and hit a concrete barrier at probably 150+. I'll never forget that sickening thud. Very sad news today...
That is very sad news I friend of me spoke him 2 months ago on a old timer meeting in Switzerland. He was a great driver, and did wonderful things for Ferrari. R.I.P McCoy24
