IF, for the sake of argument, Classic does not post anything on here, then is there still a problem, since some fchatters will continue to attend the event, talk about it on fchat, post photos, etc.? That's what I don't seem to understand. Is the issue this thread, the fact Classic has posts, or just that they are hosting this event?

well, there is no problem yet, but for the sake of argument :), the problem would be more the official promotion of it. however, there is a fine line and we've had the problem with Euro Sunday and plants, duplicate ids, aliases... we ended up censoring the Euro Sunday name and website for time being.

I know most everyone in DFW and would have no problem with participants posting the event as we do for British Car Day, Cooper, Etc...

Thanks Rob. Now that makes sense! I know nothing of the Euro Sunday deal...so I'm sure that is the root of the problem (and explains why I didn't quite grasp the entire situation).

Trying to tie the commercialism of this post to the potential of buying a car at a dealership...that was a stretch (and a topic for another day, as I have pretty strong opinions about how I've been treated in many dealerships across DFW...good and bad).

Correct, Classic BMW won't hurt because of this event, no matter what they say there will be financial benefit (profit) to them. Having all those FerrariChat.com users out there in Ferraris won't hurt them and that's beyond if any of you actually buy a car from them. The word will spread and it will go something like "M1, C12, and a DOZEN Ferraris!".

I think the guys at Classic BMW just love cars in general. Not intended to get out and get em. Just an excuse to get everyone together and drool over wonderful cars. Talk to a few of them, they know their stuff, not just about BMWs but about most of the other cars that were there. It was awesome, totally non-abrasive. Don't feel at all that they had other "intentions" and I like that. Very organized too!

    Eric,

Congratulate to you on a fine event. Everyone is talking about it, and it's obvious that a great deal of fantastic cars (besides BMW's) made a showing. There was no doubt sacrafice and cost associated with this event, and you and your team were there. I love Classic, and know Eddie and a few others there, and have bought cars from you guys. By far the best BMW dealer in the metroplex--IMO.

My "personal" perspective as to how I may have handled this promotion on F-Chat: I would have contacted Rob by email and asked him for a brief call--it is his baby and you are sort of fishing for fine cars on the site to attend the event. Asking Rob how to orchestrate this event as you would really like to have a lot of cars there, and you know the F-Chat community can make a great addition to the show.

I would have offerred, at the very least, to have joined the community as a paying member or to be a sponsor. If you plan to have this periodically, why wouldn't you want to work with Rob and F-Chat? Really, I don't understand this one. I know it's for charity and that's what puzzles me so much about this.

Now you can say I just put it out there offerring an opportunity on, and on. But I think we all know this is a GREAT place to seek attendees, and that's okay. I think in your heart-of-hearts, you know there was possibly a better route to take on this venture (w/F-Chat). Seriously, think about it.

Again, I hold Classic in the highest regards, and am very pleased the show was a success. Being a sponsor on F-Chat would only help your efforts to attract more cars and raise more money for Charity, and Classic can write it off.

    Cheers~

Thanks to Eric & the Classic family for a wonderful event. I trusted Classic to service my bimmer years ago over on Central. I didn't get a chance to go in the showroom, which I understand is state of the art. I look forward to a return visit soon.

BTW, the first car I bought out of college was from Classic BMW Used, a 325is back in 1997. I bought with 45k miles and sold it with over 150k miles. Great car, got me into motorsports after I autocrossed it hard for 3 years and a few track sessions. BMW is high on our favorite makes, but only so much room in the garage. :)

Funny story when I bought the car, not a knock against Classic, but this young financing gal I worked with there. Here I was a Finance major and she was sticking to the company (all dealers) financing line that it doesn't matter what the interest rate or months of the loan are, all you should worry about is the payment amount. I almost walked out of there, she would not give up on that when I said only thing I was interested in was the interest rate. I didn't give a rats ass if my payment was $500 or $1,500. I wanted the best terms for the loan and she stuck with it blue in the face that the interest rate didn’t matter.

That's funny!! Might work at a Kia dealership, but you wouldn't think they would try that at a BMW store.
