Short, but just about says it all. CHRIS HARRIS on the Ferrari FF - YouTube Someday ... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
really well said. I feel like he explains all the time. The conflict of contemplating selling it because of the lack of use and then the feeling behind the wheel at any speed in any amount of traffic...makes you feel like the expense is worth it. Certainly the best "value" for the money that I have experienced in any Ferrari or sports car I have ever owned and I have owned plenty in order to make this comment. Those who still refuse to believe it, drive it for a day
Thanks for posting. Harris captures it -- everything makes you feel special, and you can take it anywhere. I think that the FF might be the only current Ferrari road car that is actually worth its cost.
Very funny. I like Chris Harris' reviews. I can apply his logic about feeling special to almost every Ferrari I've had. For me, as a daily driver, the FF just didn't compute- mostly because I don't want a Ferrari as a daily driver- and the FF is still a Ferrari. There's the full video on Drive+...
The video is longer if you subscribe to their premium service, the old business model wasn't making them money so they had to start charging or close the doors... His long version laferrari review is on as well
I'm completely at a loss when it comes to Drive+. I'm in the U.S., by the way. They announced on youtube that it would be a subscription service, so I immediately signed up for a year(mostly on the strength of what Harris does, but a lot of it is good). A couple of days later I got an email from Google/youtube telling me that the subscription was canceled because the service was no longer being offered. I gather this is a US/licensing thing (maybe it conflicts with their contract with NBC?), but there has been no reasonable explanation for it. Maybe someone can educate me? Sorry for branching somewhat off topic...
I actually just rechecked and it appears they may have resolved their access issues in the US. I just resubscribed. Hopefully it will take this time...
Funny of all the new ferraris this is the one that has the most appeal to me. The F12 is kinda cartoonish and you can more or less get the same thing in a new corvette, plus as a 2 seater exotic an aventador is just so much more, well exotic and raw. The 458 looks great but actualy is pretty boring to drive in general use, at least from my experience, and I really wnated to buy one based on looks. The FF looks orgional, and on the street its going to go way way faster than you can even unreasoably go, plus with 4 seats I dont mind its not a stick, its useable, which just means more fun on daily basis. In a darker blue or grey most nitwits wont notice you are in a ferrari so its got real general useability. Hopefully they do depreciate like the 456 and 612 before, because this is the one modern Ferrari I can see owning. Thought of the 456 loved the looks, but spent a day with one and frankly it drove like crap, too soft and no feel in the steering, a bmw M seies is a way beter drive, plus a friends eyewatering running costs says run dont walk away. The 612 is supposed to be great to drive, but its a styling miss for me from pretty much any angle, and not really a car that can blend in. So bring on the depreciation of the FF.
I've had no issues. They were funded by Youtube for two years, and after the two years had no income stream as Youtube was getting all the revshare, so it was either call it a day or opt to make people pay a few bucks. I'm real shocked with the overwhelming outcry that $3.99 a month is too much.....
I understand the point you are making about uniqueness of the FF (I own one) and I think it is a good one. But I want to report my impressions of a recent extended drive in the C7. During the past weekend I had a chance to drive a C7 Vette, an F12, a 458, and a couple of others. Having read the glowing reports on the C7 I was prepared to be impressed. But I wasn't. My example had the automatic and it was simply awful. It was like an old hydromatic -- a slushbox. When you drive an F12 or 458 with the DCT you realize how important a good transmission is to the driving experience. No car manufacturer can be serious about a high performance sports car if they offer a tranny like this. (Get the manual if you want a C7). But worse yet was the chassis dynamics. Whereas pointing and placing the F12 and 458 is a precise process, the C7 needed constant correction in the twisties. The steering is partly responsible but the suspension is also just not up to it. Maybe the bushings are part of the problem here. The C7 may be improved in various ways but make no mistake: you do get something for your extra 200K in the F cars. And it is not subtle. Whether it is worth it is another matter.
Wow- I think I have the same going in impression on the new Vette. Thank you for the feedback. I suspect I'd have a similar take away disappointment. FWIW, I had the same problem with Drive+ but I resubscribed and it works now. I agree with SBurke, I figure they make these videos, it must cost them money and time to produce them, why not pay them something if we enjoy them? Seems only fair to me.
I use the FF daily,( unless carrying the dogs) and having driven most of whats out there and I can't see what could compete when you experience all the FF capabilities. Yes its expensive but when I read threads about comparisons with Porsches, bentleys, Nissans etc the value gap is fully justified in the real world of Traffic, weather, daily use is pure pleasure I can't think what comes close?
If you are trying to find the long version video Google Chris Harris on ferrari FF You will find the long version video (about 12 min) on a site called dailymotion
I'd love an FF - but can't afford it!! High end German cars better IMO for those, like me, without enough $$$$ to blow driving around on a daily basis. The past 3 years my fleet of 458 Italia, 997 GT3RS, 993 Carrera, and E39M5 has cost me little - if anything - to run. In my experience it takes very deep pockets to own and actually drive something like an FF (much more expensive to own than an Italia, for example). Maybe in a few years when they hit $100K or below, I can consider it....
I love how Ferrari haters ALWAYS bring up Chris Harris as their 'go to' guy for supporting why they dislike Ferrari. They just don't seem to get it that the guy actually seems to LOVE the marque. Hell, he has owned far too many to be labeled a hater. Its as though (some - not all) Ferrari haters are just parroting what they think they heard from some other source about why Ferrari sucks. And then its "off to the internet!"
