Hello Ferrari Daytona SP3 lovers including myself : I had watched online the launch of Gordon Murray's amazing T.33 Spider and his several interviews from different youtube channels. Both the SP3 and the T.33 Spider are normally aspirated V12 and priced almost the same. Now I am thinking if we have a $2M to spare in buying an SP3; do we reconsider and buy the T.33 Spider? Below are two separate reviews by Top Gear.
Do you want a timeless classic from arguably the greatest car manufacturer in the world? Or a point in time lunchbox racer from a great visionary that all but maybe 5% of the world even knows who he is? What's the network of support/maintenance/parts for the "Gordon Murray T4537y435"- whatever vs Ferrari? IMHO the Ferrari Daytona SP3 is one of the most amazingly beautiful Ferraris ever made- And a proper Ferrari without having a Duracell subscription- $2M+ for a one-off kit car or $2M+ for a classic. IF I had $2M to blow <which I dont> it sure as hell would not be on "Gordon's Project Car"
The problem with this argument is that you cannot buy a SP3 for anywhere near 2m unless you have been allocated one from Ferrari. Even if one could do this, I doubt the SP3 and T33 Spider would be considered competitors. The T33 is a purist’s car, one that is bought because the buyer admires Gordon’s approach to design, wants to have the best V12 currently in production and doesn’t care that the car is not as fast as others, looks pretty average (in my humble opinion) and will be confused by uninformed people for the new Japanese roadster. The SP3 is a Ferrari hypercar, looks incredible, has a V12 with no turbos or batteries and will always have a wider audience. At the same time, mechanically it is less special. You can also service it pretty much anywhere that has a dealership No wrong answer there, both are great cars Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
Ohhh, thanks for the reminder about the Valkyrie Below are three separate youtube reviews of Tim (aka "shmee150) of the Valkyrie , Daytona SP3 and the T.33 Spider.
Such very different cars. SP3 Daytona. But I’m getting both. Now the better comparison might be T.50 S versus the new LM Ferrari.
Daytona SP3, without a doubt. As much as Gordon Murray is making handcrafted, great V12 cars, there's no way to compare. The Daytona SP3 was born as one of the greatest cars of all time, in my opinion. Born as an icon. Inspired by the 330 P4 and 250 P5 design, F140 V12 at the rear, LaF carbon structure, but without the complexity of the hybrid.
I couldn’t agree more. The SP3 is my grail car for all those reasons plus it’s an open car. Much better in my eyes than a laferrari aperta because no batteries.
I am fortunate to be able to compare the LaF (coupe) and the SP3. I agree the SP3 is a potential grail car; absolutely gorgeous, it is an open car which adds to the excitement, it feels very special to sit in (except for the dashboard) and it doesnt feel slower than the LaF unless you are driving flat out. The biggest drawback is the difficulty of getting into the car with the roof in place. I am not a big guy and i consider myself fairly flexible, but I have yet to figure out how to get in an out gracefully. The LaF is a doddle by comparison Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
Getting in and out with as little grace as possible is a quintessential part of the supercar experience.
Are you referring to LaF coupe? Because it really is so much easier. On the coupe, the doors form one piece with part of the roof, and when they are open, there is no roof obstacle to getting into the car. The Daytona is the same as the LaF Aperta: the roof is an entire piece removable, and therefore the doors do not extend to part of the roof. So, even when open, you have to turn your head away from the roof to enter.
Agree but in the SP3 the windscreen extends further to the rear and makes the opening even smaller Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
The windscreen has been changed and won’t extend so far on the actual car. The T33 show car and drawings are outdated, Gordon comments on this in one of the videos

It is very interesting to read your comments about both cars. I passed on the laferrari (yes, I know, I need to see a doctor) because of the hybrid setup. This is why I am so enthusiastic about the SP3. However, after reading you, I am anticipating a hard time getting in with the roof on (I am 6.1, pretty fit but roughly as flexible as a sovietic leader).
I am talking about the windscreen of the SP3 … It has not changed, it is still tough getting into the car with the roof on… Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
