Does anyone know of any cheap fast reliable cars uder $5,000? I'd rather not have one of those high school driver P.O.S cars that look like somone **** out the metal.

Most of those I only find in automatic =\ It's a nice car but I like manual.

I'm seeing those for $1,000 up to $20,000 the ones around $1,000 have somthing wrong with them. Not that I mind fixing them which I really don't but I don't know how much the parts would cost.

Do you want a 2 door or 4 door? How old of a car would you consider?
Is gas mileage a concern? Do you need to have a car that is inexpensive to insure?

Would prefer a 2 door. I don't mind at all how old it is as long as it's nice :)

I don't really mind gas mileage. If I want somthing nice I have to live with the gas. And inexpensive being how inexpensive? And if it's on the expensive side, how expensive?

Toyota MR2 NA (Naturally Aspirated. A good turbo model will run you close to 10K these days. A decent one might be had for around 6k)
Datsun 240Z Look for the best you can find.

I'd stay away from the 924 or 944. They're great cars but maintenance can cost as much as the car. Especially for the 924.

i think at one stage some time ago you asked something like this a some folk suggested an X1/9... it won't be fast if you want stoplight drags but for pure fun driving times you can't beat it! if you buy a crap one though (too easy to do) then you might have to carry bus-fare just in case, but for $4-5k you should be able to get a really good example.

C4 Vette might be in the range..... I toyed with the idea of picking one up as a daily driver/beater

The best 240Z you can find.

A 944 Turbo if you can get in a good one at that price. It won't rust. It will run. A 944 can easily be had for $5K.

These cars have great looks and hatch versatility.

I would say miata too. One of the best things I did to mine was put in a glass window top and had tint put on. It helped in the summer.

I love my miata, when I get it all rebuilt I think I may make it my daily driver once again. It is such a fun car.

Well a Saab isn't the fastest thing ever, but they're pretty quick and the older ones are reliable too

I know that you said you couldn't find them in manual (not sure why, though) - but I can't think of another car this is more fun to drive for $2k than a Datsun 280ZX. I remember having lots of fun in one of those, and the reliability is great. I can't say enough good things about the car...
