I stand corrected -- you might be entirely accurate regarding a lack of a second row of alphanumeric characters (on the revised chassis stamping location) for the very early-1961 cars. In the case of 2639, maybe it was just a matter of me "expecting" to see an "IGM 2130 OM" just below the "FERRARI 250 GT *2639*." Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think the thing which is especially confounding is WHY the Numero Interno natural/rough casting area would be partially machined off/ground off, for any reason but for a nefarious/deceptive purpose?
The picture below shows 2467 GT's chassis stamping as being on the main frame rail. It seems that there's a bit of overlap regarding being able to pinpoint EXACTLY when in early-1961 the chassis stamping location ceased being on the main frame rail, and ceased having a 'GT' suffix. Therefore, the changeover point wasn't EXACTLY after 2399 GT as Kare posits (and many others have traditionally claimed). Image Unavailable, Please Login
If you make a mistake, you might try to correct it. Who would guess that 50 years later there would be a big boo-hoo-hoo about such thing? Best wishes, Kare
As GTE production was now rolling steadily, large chunks of serial numbers may have been allocated for the production with the result that other models may have received later numbers than the buiding time would suggest. So... construction of 2467GT (and a few others) could already have been started when the decision to drop the suffix after 2399GT was made. Best wishes, Kare
I don't think, that this was a mistake - why should anybody machined off/ground off this area? Quite far catched!
Ferraripilot asked: And where is Mr. Sheehan in all of this now . Big Tex replied: Made his deposit at the bank, and is heading out to lunch Ferraripilot then replied: I guess as long as the customer is pleased nothing else matters. And so Ill reply: Good summary, the client is happy, Ferrari Classiche is happy, I went to the bank three months ago on that deal. Its old news. I'll go back to my daily 200 plus e-mails, the rapidly looming deadlines for my next columns and the daily drama of pushing string uphill re: the other cars we are working through Ferrari Classiche. We always have several older high-end cars in the painful process of waiting for the papal blessings.....the brain damage, the brain damage, the brain damage... My regard. M. Sheehan.
