The tough cars will help him for the future. He's young. He still has plenty of time. That being said, Ferrari better bloody up their game next year.

Let’s be fair to Leclerc and honest about the current state of F1 since the turbo-hybrid era, it does not matter what a driver does or how politically savvy they are, if they were not in a Mercedes since 2014, they were not going to be a champion. There is no way team Hamilton would ever allow a driver as talented as Max or Charles in the 2nd Mercedes seat, Nico caused them too much grief and he is nowhere near the driver as Max or Charles. Just poor timing for any driver other than the 2 Mercedes drivers to be in F1, not their fault.

The same can be said about 19 drivers, not just Charles.

In any case, if he’s already willing to re-sign for 2024 and beyond, he’s already figured out there are worse jobs than being a Ferrari driver and it’s all about enjoying life and having fun isn’t it? Like Alesi said in an interview I saw, he had absolutely no regrets joining Ferrari despite probably (maybe, maybe not) musing out on a chance to win a championship.

Well, Alesi would say that, wouldn't he?
It's hard for someone not to justify their choice.
The fact is that, looking back, Alesi made a bad decision turning down Williams to take Ferrari's offer.
Insight is a marvellous thing, but probably that joining Williams, the leading team then, Alesi would have won more than 1 GP.
Now, of course, he doesn't want to look like an idiot, and he will swear that he did the right thing, for media consumption.
To that I say BS !!!

I always read the same about Alesi. In 1990, when Alesi signed for Ferrari, Williams was 4th, and Ferrari 2nd. Full stop.

Now everybody is a smart ass, of course, but back then signing for Ferrari was the obvious choice.

Granted, Williams had a very average year by their standards in 1990.
But Williams had been creeping ahead of Ferrari technically speaking for a few seasons already.
A discerning driver and his manager should have seen that when looking for a seat.
Williams went on to be among the leading teams for a decade, collecting several titles.
    Ferrari ...

Ferrari also went on to collect several titles.

Williams, BTW, had a pretty good year in 1990 compared to... their current standards.;)

But hindsight is 20/20 isn’t it? For example, moving to Williams didn’t exactly benefit Senna’s career. And you can disparage Ferrari all you want but they never modified a steering column to introduce a fatigue-sensitive neck down like the “more technically advanced” Williams designed.

Yeah, like swapping the Ferrari that hadn't won in 20 years for the world champion Benetton. A dumb move, no doubt... when seen in hindsight.

What title Ferrari won in the 90s, when Alesi made his decision? I don't remember any... Perhaps I have a bad memory.

True that Senna's move to William wasn't a success. He certainly didn't find the same atmosphere than at McLaren.
Frank Williams and Patrick Head were distant, and Senna didn't "gel" with his new team.
Although he obtained 3 poles in the first 3 GPs, Senna also didn't totally adapt to the car by his own admission.
He complained of the rear end stability, He was uncomfortable and demanded some changes in the cockpit.
The modification to the steering column have to be seen in that light; it was made in haste (and botched) with the result we know.
But the Williams was good enough to win the WCC that year, driven by Damon Hill and David Coulthard.

Very anxious to see how well he goes this weekend. The car is a good deal better than the poop mobile of last year.
