Scoring 2-3 points is better than crashing, if that's reaching the car's limit.

Ferrari has been completely incapable of giving drivers the absolute minimum mental and emotional support they require to perform to their potential. For goodness sake take the example of Kimi aka The Iceman, because he’s so cool and even he succumbed to the void that is being a driver for the The Scuderia. It was the same with Vettel. In contrast look at how Mercedes supports the fragile Hamilton and even now are able to manage him while he’s loosing no less. Ferrari CANNOT continue to ignore the incomplete management that they have.

When Binotto wagged his finger and scolded Leclerc like a child after Silverstone last year in public, he crossed a serious line as a leader. Then he crossed another one when he left the pit wall after his strategy blew up again in Hungary, and abandoned his team as the defeat of agony was being realized.

Both Leclerc and Sainz never trusted Binotto after those incidents.

You'd never see Toto or Horner do that. They support their drivers, stay with the team during the disasters, and wash their dirty laundry behind closed doors.

For Ferrari's standard, scoring 2 -3 points...they might as well just shut down the F1 team , and focus on sports cars.

Ferrari have all the data, they should be advising him as well, and always being on their toes especially in tricky conditions. I mean those are lottery times.

Scoring 2-3 points is a start, then you try to improve to score 6-8 points in future.
Next you work again to aim for 10-12 points, etc ...
In the past, Ferrari finished 3 times 6th in the WCC, and once 10th !!!
    They didn't shut down.

In a strict business since they dont need the drain of the team either. They sell anything they make and all with a waiting list. F1 is a luxury diversion. F1 is no longer Enzo's racing. Its a Corporate Glam show for celebrities and sold as racing to the masses lol. All with a limited budget that literally kills racing/innovation with seasons that are now 15 races too long. The budget limit has effectively killed F1 after 6-9 races. So why have more.

Most of them are small as well as in height....it all means less weight...but they are physically fit. No difference really than a jockey that races horses as far a build goes.

I knew this Wonderful older and well, huge, Italian lady in south Florida 20 years ago. She went to see Indycar IRL -whatever it was called then- at Homestead with vip access and, looking closely at a car, realizing SHE could never get in, she went "Ma Howe do theya fitta in thera!?" Then she told me a guy called Helio arrived and slipped into the car "like an eel from Braseel":D "They're all jockey sized!" she exclaimed. SI signora:)!

Their height is actually average by US standards. According to the CDC, it's roughly 5 feet, 9 inches, which is Hamilton's height. Leclerc, Verstappen, and Sainz are all taller.

Been lot of same rumors this week that Leclerc & Ferrari started negotiating new deal during Brazil GP. Some suggestion has been that it would be a 1+1 year extension. Leclerc would drive with Ferrari until end of 2025, and then see if to use the option for 2026 and new regs.
This could turn out to be false information like the earlier rumor about that long contract during the summer.
Part of the rumor is that Charles has told his inner circle of having serious doubts about ever winning WDC with Ferrari.

I think these are made up again, but if indeed Charles would sign until end of 2025, it would interestingly match with Merc drivers contracts ending after 2025.

One thing is for sure, whether you like Leclerc or not, him jumping to another team would be a total embarassement for the Scuderia. When was the last time Ferrari lost a driver without their own will to another team?
Add the fact of him being the gem of their driver academy, it would be a hit to their brand image.

1+1 is the smart option for him, absolutely. Long term deal with Ferrari...no matter how much I love the team, you'd be crazy to do so if you have a championship to win.

I've wondered whether smaller drivers advance up the ranks because they first excelled in karting(where power/weight ratio is critical) or is this a fallacy?

Of course, the less weight a kart has to haul around a kart track, the faster the kart will go theoretically.

Large size and weight are a handicap in motor racing, like they are for motorcycle or horse racing.

The ideal "jockey" is small and slim !!

Nope. Karting at all levels has minimum weights for each class. A small kid has to add a lot of weight to get up to class minimums. Sure, there are games to be played with where the weight is placed, but there is no simple power to weight advantage. I don't recall the exact amount now, but rebuilding my grandsons kart after having the frame straightened, and we left the weights attached to the seat when we removed it. The seat, with weights, was considerably heavier than the engine. You can see the weights in the pic below.

Wouldn't it be advantageous if the weights were placed lower on the kart instead of the weights(pic you posted) attached to the seat?

Absolutely, and I said, there's games to be played with where the weight is placed. But I was specifically responding to the comment about weight, not placement.

Maybe there are rules saying that the ballast must be placed on the seat where the body weight would be ?

If not, then there is room for ingenuity.
