Valves still close when in Race, though as ttforcefed stated, they might open sooner in the RPM range.

    Hello, Nice CS!
I notice you said your car has a factory stripe, however the front tip of the stripe does not touch the edge of the panel in the OEM stripe like yours. Is your stripe definatly under the lacquer?, perhaps it was done at a later stage.

    See here for OEM Stripe

Not true, see the following post:

    Exactly.

The valves are fully open at start-up iirc - and its pretty obvious from the very loud "roar" upon pushing the button and then the exhaust valves close after a short-period of time and the sound goes down [at least that's how I recall it...but now as I type this I'm starting to wonder because I had the valves vacuum controller lines simply disconnected/plugged with a golf tee (which leaves the valve open at all times)]. Been too long to recall I guess. I wonder where my former CS is now (I had it from 2011 to 2018).

Anyways, someone who knows the in's and out's of the exhaust valves will likely be along here I hope to set up straight. (its been discussed before here more than once)

It was an amazing "A to A" car, with few peers for the pure excitement it can bring at modest speeds.

The roar at start up is phenomenal. Hoping my controller can be installed this week.

Factory, under the paint, two independent checks show zero signs of repaint. Who knows with Ferrari!
    What a car!

My factory stripe looks just like dustman.

Perhaps since these are decals put on by hand at the factory and then clear painted over there are some slight variations? Image Unavailable, Please Login

CS is in getting the valve switch now.
Matt LeBlanc had just dropped off his gated 308. Such a nice looking vintage car, and small too.
One thing I forgot to note in my write up is that I now prefer Rosso Scuderia to Rosso Corsa. When I look at both in the garage I am astounded how great Scuderia looks and it makes my 458 seem dull. Never thought I’d feel this way. Scuderia is not orange at all as I had feared initially. Just a better, brighter red IMO.
Now if I could have a CS in the 488 Corsa Blue color...

Beautiful!! My first ride in a Ferrari was a brand new CS back in 2004 and I still remember it like it was yesterday. Didn’t quite realize how special it was then, but having ridden in many others over the following years I understand and appreciate the CS much more now. Congrats!!!

no, valves are not open all the time. My cs tcu kicks valves open after 3k rpm in everymode with moderate application of the throttle.
Race Mode pops the valves open briefly on aggressive downshifts

Just returned from having the valve switch installed, same person who handles my 458’s, Performante, etc.

What a night and day difference. When you do a switch in the 458, it just keeps the great sound on all the time.

I swear to you, my CS sounds different, louder, angrier, snarling trumpets mean. Likely hearing noises that were there but muted so much they couldn’t be discerned, but what a transformation. Simple switch, $1200, rocker under the dash out of site.

Ridiculous. As someone who ADORES loud and great sounding cars, this is near nirvana.

If you own a CS, PM me and I will send you the contact info.

Feels like the first time i drove a 458...pins and needles.

what is the difference in exhaust between US and EU CS? is it the headers?

Yes. US has precats in the headers, EU doesn't.
US also has air injection rails on the headers that pump air into the exhaust stream at startup to increase the catalyst temp quickly for emissions purposes.

Beautiful car Dustman! Love the CS, I have a Giallo Yellow one and I drive it more than the Pista! Agile and light, the car is such a cinch to drive around and you can push it without going supersonic like you do in the Pista.

No stripe on mine, I thought about adding it but don't think it would look right on Giallo ....

    Congratulations !

Thx...like to see a pic of yours. I would not get a stripe on Giallo.
Just back from a 90min drive mountains , coast, farmlands. With the exhaust valves pinned open, what a joy.

    And, I passed 10,000 miles.

Only took 3 months, but finally got the CS registered in CA state.
Passed smog easily, even with valves pinned open.
Didn’t come with license plate screws/frame so I’ll have to hit up an auto parts store next.
Driving the car every chance I get....its just brilliant.

Fun fact...fuel filler cap release button works when the car is running, and doesnt when the car is off. Trip to dealer to sort out has been cancelled.
(The manual release lever is on the left side of the engine bay, FWIW).

Spent an hour on the mountain backroads with the CS this week. Simply divine.
Picked up the 458s from its service this week, was shocked how it felt like a Lexus in comparison. It’s as if the 458 lost all its rawness! LOL
