Just wondering, does anyone daily drive their CS?
nope. multiple reasons 1. vandals. I don't have a garage at work, outdoor parking only. 2. sun damage while parking outside everyday in the summer 3. employees would ask for raise
No way. Too Spartan. I love mine but 10 minutes in traffic and I want to jump out of my skin. If it was nothing but wide open freeway everywhere then yes. But even a small amount of traffic stresses me out. They're all too slow.
Would be a shame to DD a CS. Got to make the miles count and miles spent commuting in traffic day after day are wasted miles.
spartan is right. no radio means sitting in traffic with nothing to do. also to add, blind spot is quite large. changing lane in bumper-bumper traffic would be quite risky.
I dd'd my former CS. Bought it with 2k miles sold it w 9.7k miles after a year. California weather & roads are too nice not to enjoy your Ferrari on a daily basis. If you're a collector, then you would probably be shaking your head with disgust. Unfortunately for me, garage queens bring zero happiness to me so...
no. Too loud and impractical in essentially every regard. Its a 3rd or greater type car. I have a GT and an SUV that I use for most errands and to work. The CS is a an "A to A" type car, (I got this phrase here from another f-chatter), it is great to drive for the sake of driving...go out, come back to the same place. Its low and you want to park is somewhere appropriate and avoid speed bumps, etc, so you normally only take it someplace you know already...
Drove mine as a DD for a couple years and I agree what others have said. Radio non-existant or might as well be. Does not like anything other than smooth perfect roads. Seating position quite low, visibilty not great. Lots of road noise. $/mile quite high (its the most expensive per mile car to maintain that I've ever owned). No low end torque. No ground clearance. Burns through tires. Its a great looking car and sublime on the track but out of its element its just a waste.
CS: - attracts too much attention - very low, front scrapes on everything - value of car heavily dependent on mileage - with belt service, very high maintenance costs - zero creature comforts, zero luxury - F1 sucks at low speeds and stop/go traffic - pathetic gas mileage I cannot think of a worse DD than a CS.
agreed. but as for worse daily driver......i tried my bbi for a month - that was awful. i tried the 512tr too, could never find a parking spot big enough around here. the only one in my stable that makes sense as a dd is the 456
One of the worst aspects of driving any exotic around town is parking. I'll drive my scud anywhere (grocery store, Home Depot, etc.) as long as I can park it away from other cars. This requires some planning, however. If you DD the car, you're likely going to encounter situations in which you have no choice but to park next to others who may be careless with their doors. I won't take that chance.
I drive my CS quite often but if i'm venturing where I know parking is an issue I just upgrade to my scooter.
It's a great question. I think only you will be able answer that after a few days of trying. I am a big fan of barabba's approach above. Scooter and exotic are a great combo!
And I'll add to that negotiating ingress/egress points with much of any inclines or dip... large speed bumps, etc. Even backing out of my driveway, I ask my friends to wait and get in the car after I'm on the street. When I had a larger buddy of mine in the car we scraped. Even in my stock F430 I have to be careful to avoid scraping, I can't imagine dealing with that on a CS on a daily basis.
Pet peeve alert...how do you consider an extra $600 per year for the cost of an every-three-years $1800 belt job resulting in "very high maintenance costs"? I'm not denying a Ferrari is expensive to maintain. I just cannot fathom how $600 extra per year on average is anything other than a rounding error on total cost of ownership for a Ferrari.
I was comparing the total maintenance cost of putting 5-10K miles / year on a CS compared to a "typical" DD.
Ok, that's what I figured. The belts on a 360 at $1800 every three years ($600 per year) really isn't a big driver of that...the annual fluid change at ~$1000 is a bigger delta. Heck, it's all expensive! (it is a Ferrari after all, but I just think it's misleading to say belts are a major expense to be considered when owning a 360...it's noise level in an expensive endeavor IMHO) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Why would you want to DD a CS though? Honestly you could if you wanted to, but I assume most people with a Stradale has at least 4 cars. Mistress is the perfect 5th car but it's not meant to be primary form of transportation unless you can't live without that attention.
I drive mine often when open season, but not totally up to daily driver status. But whats the gripe? No radio? = Who cares? I am just finishing a restoration on an early (1967) Porsche that I do plan on driving daily. Guess what? No radio. Too low? yeah the Strad is low, but not too low. I tower above many a Fast&Furious VW trend driver type in my area. Its liveable. Eats tires? Again = So what? I have three set of wheels & tires for my Strad. I dont think of that as an issue. Its not an unbearable car. I own unbearable cars (how about a drag racing street legal wheel standing Dart that gets 5MPG and is nearly impossible to get in & out of with the NHRA cage). The Strad is a softy in comparison with many. Try a dune buggy on for size. Or a Radical or Caterham or a Ariel Atom. I have no problem with any of them either BTW. About the only thing I agree with is the attention. It garners a lot of that. I just drive on & wave.
It is totally doable. Car is comfortable enough to be driven every day. It's not as comfy as a merc but it's not uncomfortable as an F40 either. I actually enjoy how the seats envelop your body. Some Strad have a radio. It's definitely not too loud unless you open it up.
