My shop says my heat shields are loose and rattling, so they should be removed and my headers sent out for ceramic coating. Where to send them? In CANADA? OR should I buy a set already ceramic coated? Are they available?? Thanks, Dennis

According to Google there are many places in Canada to do the coating. Shipping to the states will add costs.

Is getting rid of the heat shields a bad idea? My heat shields are long gone but I wonder whether they are worth replacing.

Would depend on which ones and what they are shielding.

Aft shield shields an oil line on my dry sump, so really does depend...

Make sure you coat the headers inside and out.

Note that you may find that the headers are cracked under the heatshields, so may need repairs.

There are directional blankets you could do on top of the coating if you want. I likely would not bother, but you might use them to protect specific areas.

    Example:

    Amazon.com: Thermo-Tec 11630 3' X 6" Pipe Shield: Automotive

I run the thermo-tec shields on my m3 which has an aftermarket exhaust...to shield the differential from heat.

Is there anywhere that I can buy headers for my 308 already ceramic coated, inside and out? That may cost more but will certainly cut down the time it sits, waiting for mine to be sent out and returned, plus as mentioned there MAY be cracks? I did read that using "blankets" or wrap, can keep moisture in and cause future rust issues, so I don't think I'd recommend that. Supposedly, ceramic coated inside and out will reduce the temp around the headers drastically! Comments? Opinions??

I had Jet Hot do the exhaust manifolds on my Jag straight 6, they came out fabulous, still look perfect after many years... I plan on using them on my GT4 (as soon as I can get them out!)

I had my entire exhaust system ceramic coated, but am going to have them re-done because the coater only did the outside.

    Coated inside and out. Makes a tremendous difference in reducing the the heat in the engine room. Highly recommended ;

It is impractical and unnecessary to try to coat used pipes inside and out. A shop cannot guarantee to completely clean, blast and then coat the insides. Most processes spray on the finish, then heat cure, some will dip the whole part into a bath, this is the better method but will still not give a uniform coating thickness. Obviously you would like to know that the inner finish would not break away.

I'm not so sure about that. Check out Jet-Hot.com located in S. Carolina and Oklahoma.
They did the headers for my Corvette about 8 years ago, inside and out. They still look new. I also had they do a heat shield for me last year for my Jaguar. As expected, came out fantastic.
    For what its worth.

Thank you. Those are the original headers after the heat shielding was removed, sampling ports plugged, air injection ports closed up.

Yes. I've done seceral racing systems, new stainless, old British cast manifolds and several Ferrari and Lambo. Nobody would gaurantee the used parts, recommended forgetting the inside on most too. Been using Jet Hot and Keco mostly. I did make a custom system for a Lotus seven, and did it myself with ceramic from Eastwoods, came out OK, hardest part was the oven time and temp.

Well in my case the deed is done. I will report back when I update my exhaust system in 100k miles. Unless the original springs leaks before then.

Ok, 308 Gurus. I need to order some headers now and have them ceramic coated inside and out, so I have questions, WHERE should I buy them from, Superformance lists them, and since I have put test pipes in my cats, I have "fake" cats now, I won't want the holes for emission things in the new headers, so how do I insure that I'm getting the right headers? 1982 US version, but cats not in use, they're still there, just for looks, but they are straight through flow. I still have the original Ansa muffler, and it seems to be in great shape, so just new headers???? I appreciate all comments and help, I need to get on this ASAP as Winter storage is just a few short months away! Thank you, Dennis

Did jet-hot on 308 manifold. Peeled in one spot very quickly. They have a warranty, but I'd have to take it out and ship. We all know how difficult it is to removel manifolds, so not worth it, unless some other reason to take out. Plus, I want to drive the car not have it sit for 2 weeks with no manifold.

The superformance ones are not great. No mandrel bending. Similarly from Maranellos in the UK. Better to get an aftermarket mob. Recently replaced mine with a set from Larini. Better prices than Tubi etc but nice looking stuff. Bolted in just fine to my Euro qv. They don't make em for 2v cars tho
