If it's like the stuff they put on pre-finished hardwood flooring it should be pretty bulletproof.

Stick with the factory stuff.. I never heard of any "Ceramic" Clear Coating... The factory today applies the clear coat in a powder form then with heat is turns to liquid and hardens.. Your paint code should tell you the factory color and code. depending on your year you may have single stage vs. 2 stage (base coat, clear coat). Top of the line paints are Glasurit, PPG Global (currenty used at Ferrari factory), Sikkens, Spies Hecker. All these brands are very good. Also make sure that who ever paints your car uses a clear coat made by the same company as the base coat if your doing a 2 stage finish. Sometimes shops take a short cut and use a different / cheaper clear (not usually with Ferrari) but it is always better to be safe vs. sorry. You may be talking about the new Glasurit scratch resistant clear coat. Pretty expensive stuff but worth every penny. Not sure if it has "ceramic" in the title.

    Hope this helps

Current Ferrari's are indeed finished with a "ceramic clear coat" I believe it mentions it in their promotional literature. Ferrari's promotional video about the construction of the 599 clearly states that the car receives a "ceramic clear coat over the colour coat" for added protection. It is as stated applied as a powder and then baked. BASF and Dupont both make ceramic clear coats for the car industry. Mercedes use the one made by BASF. Merc's that have a ceramic clear coat have a C preceding the colour number in their paint code, e.g. C744 is a silver with ceramic clear coat.

The ceramic clear coat provides better swirl mark resistance. The old clear coats although much improved over the old colour only coats still suffered from swirl marks - red cars suffered especially! The ceramic coatings still suffer from stone chips. If you want to stop stone chips have your car wrapped in 3M Venture shield, it is not perfect but it's 99% there
