Can someone give me idiot proof instructions for removing the center a/c vent in a 348? I'd love to get it out without damaging it or my dash

The area circled in red should be under the hood and under the trunk liner. The oval shaped area in my car is open. Its just a cut out in the duct. Should it have some type of cover or insert or is it supposed to be open? The PO ran some wires through there i assume for a k40 radar det. thats since been removed. I want to remove the wires going through that hole and seal it back up if it's supposed to be.

They just pull straight up? Is it hard to get the corner ones out, I don't see where I'm supposed to depress something on those.

I used some popsicle sticks to keep the tabs pressed and lifted from the bottom towards the rear view mirror. Popped right out with no damage.

    Thanks for the help

OK, so on the center vent, do you also need to press something but in 2 locations? Should I see these tabs with a flahlight? I want to go ahead and just remove all of them today and not brake anything. The picture of the side ones really help, anyone have one of the center vent?

The center looked just like the sides but with 2 tabs. I was afraid to but it did just pop right out.. see my post above

OK, got them out also, thanks guys. One question though. On one of my side cents, the side to side adjuster was pushed in and then fell out. It can be put back together but how do I get the back tube off the vase of the vent, ir the moving part of the vent out?

Last thing, I plan to use easy-off to strip the sticky paint, how to I stop from removing the white markings or put them back?

    Hi guys,

I'm trying to reinstall both my side vents (left and right) on my 348 and cant seem to get the upper outside corner in properly. Anyone have any suggestions?

The other three corners on both the left and ride side vents are in place ok.

See pic below. Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Jason - FYI, those are 355 vents, not 348 (same except the graphics). If your dash has been recovered, the leather / padding might be too thick or the backing steel plate needs adjustment. They normally just snap it but don't push too hard or the corner will break off.

Thanks Dave- forgive my ignorance, but would you have a pic or drawing that shows what steel backing plate your referring to, and any info for how to adjust it?

    Thanks,

    Jason

    Hey Jason,
EDIT - just looked at the 348 parts diagram - looks like 348's don't have the steel backing plates - sorry for pointing you in the wrong area - 355's have them.

The hole should have a rubber plug in it like the one in this picture. I think I have several lying around if you want one, just pay shipping. PM me if you want one.

Lol, I later realized the post I responded to was from 2006, hopefully he found himself a rubber plug by now. I’m usually pretty good at paying attention to post dates on revived threads but I missed this one.
