Caveat Emptor “on certain model year Porsche Cayenne and Macan vehicles, the transfer case long term durability may be below Porsche’s high quality standards.” Porsche has quietly extended the warranty up to 10 years. Details can be found with an internet search or through Porsche’s 3rd party administrator here (password “DRIVEN”): https://www.transfercasewarrantyextension.com My personal experience: purchased a used 2013 Cayenne, manual transmission in 2018 with 96K miles (to teach my 3 kids how to drive, 2 down, 1 to go). Upon delivery to me, I immediately knew there was a problem*- paid to have the transfer case replaced, out of pocket at my local Porsche dealership (this was prior to Porsche admitting a problem/ prior to extension of warranty). At the time, dealership told me to expect the new one to last 25-30K miles, cost about $4.5K. December, 2023 noticed same problem at 121k miles. Need another new transfer case. This is barely outside the 10 year window of the extended warranty. Neither Porsche NA or dealership will offer any “goodwill” to replace transfer case ($5K). But, through a 3rd party they will offer reimbursement for previous repairs paid out of pocket. I have tried to use the 3rd party website, provided by Porsche NA, which will not accept my claim input. I have now called x4 since 1/10/24 to submit an inquiry about filing a claim. They have no record of the first 2 phone calls. The 3rd phone call, 1/16/24, was put in the system with no actionable steps taken, - I was told I would hear from someone in 24-48 hours. The last phone call, this morning, 1/19/24, was 41+ min with no resolution- I should expect a phone call in 3-5 business days… Ferrari and other exotics may not be perfect, but neither is Porsche. Just an observation for all the times someone complains about exotics and “quality.” * Selling delearship did not mention any problem. PPI failed to detect problem…. yeah
To be fair, there aren’t many 96,000-mile Ferraris. At least Porsche extended the warranty to 10 years. Hopefully you get a response. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
my 2006 Cayenne S just past the 200,000 mile mark. so far so good. btw. never ever buy that type of car without a factory cpo warranty.
A very well known problem on that gen Cayenne. A friend had 5 put into his cayenne in the years he owned it. I've heard he diesel and the Hybrid have less failure as they use a different gear ratio to the standard Cayenne. FYI I liked my manual 2009 Cayenne.. but not enough to keep it. All the subsystems failed like a 7 series BMW. Drove me crazy. FYI I have a 98 boxster if the truck dies and you want to teach them stick..
Porsche NA has confirmed today, in writing that my vehicle was covered by extended warranty. But, it is on me to resolve issue with the third party. Thanks?
I had the transfer case replaced on my 2017 Cayenne S after 15K miles. I think it started to go around 12K miles.
Have you tried suing? I'm having the same issue and I've retained a lawyer. LMK if you want his info.
I just got a call back this week. They are mailing me paperwork to fill out. I suspect my last phone call informing them that I had a letter from Porsche NA specifically stating that my vehicle was covered, with my VIN# specifically spelled out, might have finally convinced them that I wasn’t going away. If I see a check before Labor Day, I’ll be shocked. Maybe, make it class action?
Did you see this article? Sounds like you have a claim. https://www.carscoops.com/2024/06/porsche-hit-with-class-action-lawsuit-over-faulty-transfer-case-in-cayenne-and-macan/
Thanks, but Porsche replaced mine at no cost three years after the general warranty had expired. And when I brought the car in and described the problem the service manager immediately told me about the extended warranty.
The transmission skips, especially when taking off from a stop. I never saw any fluid leak. At first I thought I had a burnt coil as it felt like the power would go in and out in rapid succession. I once had a burnt coil on a 911 Turbo (common problem with those cars) and it kinda felt like that. Or imagine that you're taking off on a sandy road with bald tires and the wheels are skipping. That sort of feeling. But then I realized it probably wasn't a coil because it would happen even under lower acceleration loads. When I took the car in and described the feeling, the service manager immediately knew what the issue was without even driving the car. I had the car back two days later all good at no cost on a seven year old car. Seems like Porsche is trying to do the right thing here. Don't know why it has devolved into a lawsuit.
Thanks. My diesel has 82k miles so if something was going to happen I would think it would have happened by now.
It happened to mine at like 12K miles. That car mostly sits at my summer house. So it only has about 15k miles on it even today.
Still have not received any paperwork…. you should see my shocked face. No one will ever convince me that this is not intentional.
you should reach out to him. I called and sounds like he's helping a lot of people negotiate with porsche
Dropping my paperwork in the mail now (in line at USPS). About 6 week delay on my end- paperwork arrived in July.
Still no response after 90 days (confirmed receipt on phone). I will hire a lawyer if nothing by the end of January, 1 year for something that should have taken a couple weeks. No ethics, business decision to refuse to pay- some will give up. They got the wrong guy; it’s the principle at this point.
Got a call today- they claim that I have been “preliminarily approved,” and I will be paid in January. I’ll believe it when I see it. Utterly shameful behavior to this point.
Can someone post a link to the 10 year extension on the TC.. I have a Macan S.. I think I will need to replace at some point in future!
